East Stroudsburg University's Early Childhood and Elementary Education Department is looking for a Tenure Track Professor! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

This Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in the Early Childhood and Elementary Education department involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising student teachers, and advising students in the teacher preparation program. The faculty member is expected to develop a research program supporting early childhood and elementary education. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with colleagues and active service to the department and university.

ESU's Early Childhood Education program has adopted the Professional Development School (PDS) model, which is shown to be one of the best teacher preparation models. ESU's Early Childhood Program focuses on continuous professional learning and leading for all participants, guided by need and a spirit and practice of inquiry. As a Professional Development School (PDS), ESU Early Childhood Education is a learning community that aims to advance equity, antiracism, and social justice within and among schools, colleges/universities, and their respective community and professional partners. Additionally, the PDS model embraces the preparation of educators through clinical practice.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood and elementary education.
  • Supervise student teachers and provide guidance in their field placements.
  • Advise students in the teacher preparation program to support their academic and professional growth.
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda focused on early childhood and elementary education.
  • Engage in collaborative efforts with colleagues within the department and across the university.
  • Participate in departmental and university service activities, including committees and program development.
  • Contribute to the School-University Partnership (SUP) model and maintain strong connections with local school districts.
  • Attend and present at professional conferences to promote research and professional development.
Qualifications:
  • A doctoral degree in Education or a related field must be completed prior to appointment.
  • Highly qualified candidates with ABD status at the time of application may be considered. Authoritative documentation supporting the timely completion of the doctoral degree must be provided for ABD candidates before the appointment.
  • A specialization in teaching, teacher as a researcher and supervising student teachers in elementary/middle-level classroom settings is required.
  • May be responsible for teaching elementary and middle-level methods courses.
  • Must be knowledgeable about local area school districts and their functionality.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in elementary or middle-level classroom settings is required.
  • Must be familiar with the School-University Partnership (SUP) model.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with involvement in research, presentations, or publications.
  • Possess Valid Drivers License.
  • Able to read, write, comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
