Job Description:
The Assistant Dean of Nursing mainly reports to the Quincy campus and is on-site full-time. This position provides academic and administrative leadership of the Quincy College Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) and the Practical Nursing Programs (PN) in conjunction with the Dean of Nursing on both the Quincy and Plymouth campuses. Assistant Dean of Nursing is responsible for managing the overall daily operation of the ADN and PN programs including coordination of clinical experiences, oversight of student compliance, but not limited to: recruiting, orienting, and training, directing, supervising, and contributing to the evaluation of department members; as well as contributing to curriculum development and coordination initiatives, program accreditation, and program development.
Supports the review and processing undergraduate student issues, academic misconduct issues, student discipline, and student complaints; helps to establish and monitor academic clinical standards for the nursing programs and assists in ensuring that the curriculum meets all applicable regulatory or accreditation standards. Other responsibilities include creating an atmosphere conducive to scholarly pursuits; preserving academic standards; planning and goal setting; leading and directing the work of others; assisting in the implementation of the College's Strategic Plan; participating in meetings of the Nursing Program Advisory Committee and other committees as needed.
In collaboration with the Dean and the Supervisor of Laboratory Experiences for the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs is responsible for the organization, placement and supervision of nursing students in clinical settings as well as for the recruitment, placement and evaluation of clinical faculty. The incumbent will coordinate classroom with clinical teaching assignments for students and faculty (both full time and part time). He/she will collaborate with the Supervisor of Student Compliance and the Supervisor of Laboratory Experiences for Laboratory and Simulation experiences when simulation experiences are assigned in lieu of clinical site assignments. He/she will contribute to the assessment and evaluation of all faculty in the clinical setting. He/she is also responsible for the oversight of student compliance with requisite clinical requirements (immunizations, vaccinations, drug screening, CPR certification, and Criminal Background Checks). The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned by the Dean; and must demonstrate leadership to and management of the nursing programs, to include initiative in maintaining and in improving the quality of instruction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Focuses on program regulations, accreditation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of nursing and assigned educational programs.
- Participates in accreditation processes.
- Provide leadership and direction to faculty and professional staff in the development of initiatives and activities that promote student success and help to meet expected program outcomes, as well as align with the Quincy College mission, vision, and values.
- Provide input to the Dean regarding program development, budget, hiring, and promotion of full-time faculty and professional staff.
- Oversees the implementation of the clinical portion of the academic program(s) leading to achievement of student learning outcomes;
- Serves as the system Administrator for Trajecsys Recording System in collaboration with the Supervisor of Student Compliance who is the Trajecsys Coordinator
- Collaborates in monitoring clinical faculty and providing appropriate performance feedback and ensures student receipt of clinical formative and summative performance feedback;
- Assists Dean and other members of the leadership team to review, evaluate and process student issues, academic misconduct issues, student discipline, and student complaints as relates to clinical assignments and experiences;
- Serves as a mentor and facilitator for full-time and adjunct faculty; and promotes an environment which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility;
- Participates with other members of the division in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating nursing courses, clinical, and laboratory arrangements;
- Acts as a liaison between the Academic Division of Nursing and clinical agencies;
- Oversees the maintenance of clinical placement requests on the Centralized Clinical Placement (CCP) website and attends CCP meetings;
- Conducts or facilitates assigned course faculty, for routine and problem related clinical agency visits;
- Collaborates with course faculty to assign and schedule students and faculty to clinical courses and sites;
- Recruits, hires, in coordination with the Dean of Nursing, and facilitates orientation to clinical faculty in collaboration with the Human Resources Department;
- Designs, implements and evaluates a comprehensive clinical onboarding program for new clinical faculty.
- Provides mentorship to faculty;
- Evaluates clinical faculty in collaboration with Dean of Nursing;
- Develops appropriate policy and practice manuals for clinical instruction;
- Assists the Dean of Nursing in the assessment and evaluation of full time, contract faculty in the clinical setting;
- Assesses student performance issues in clinical setting and refer to the Dean of Nursing as needed;
- Assists faculty who conduct student clinical failure meetings and refer to the Dean of Nursing as needed;
- Works collaboratively with course faculty to provide appropriate clinical experiences related to course outcomes;
- Facilitates assigned student clinical learning experiences;
- Provides assistance to course faculty in maintaining attendance and clinical records for assigned students and faculty;
- Maintains communication with members of the Division of Nursing on both the Quincy and Plymouth campuses;
- Maintains open lines of communication with the Dean of the Plymouth campus.
- Collaborates with college personnel and staff of health care agencies;
- Participates in the development of relationships and contractual agreements with selected health care agencies for student clinical experiences;
- Assists in the preparation of inter- and intra-communications;
- Demonstrates motivation, self-direction, and perseverance toward achieving the philosophy and mission of the College and the Nursing Program(s);
- Continues to improve expertise in professional nursing through academic study, clinical practice, and other appropriate activities;
- Attends Mass/Rhode Island League Nursing (MARILN) meetings as directed by the Dean of Nursing;
- Collects data as requested by the Dean of Nursing for accreditation and self-study reports;
- Participates in meetings of the Nursing Program Advisory Committee and other nursing/college committees as needed;
- Maintains a consistently high level of performance and professional development in the position.

Requirements:
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree in nursing from an accredited college or university required; Current Massachusetts RN license. Preferred; Master's Degree in Nursing Education and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) in related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Current registration in good standing as a professional nurse in Massachusetts required;
- Minimum of two (2) years full-time employment in nursing or its equivalent within the past five (5) years and evidence of clinical competence in area of clinical instruction required; teaching experience preferred;
- Previous academic/education experience is required;
- Experience in curriculum development, nursing regulatory and accreditation standard adherence, and use of multimedia teaching strategies is preferred;
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Understanding of the registered and practical nursing roles and demonstrated commitment to Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Education;
- Ability to commit to flexible work arrangements;
- Current CPR certification;
- Ability to meet clinical site CORI requirements pursuant to licensing and CHSB regulations;
- Health requirements: Two MMR's or positive titers indicating immunity, Completed Hepatitis B series and/or positive titer indicating immunity, Varicella antibody titers, TD within 10 years, Annual negative PPD or Chest X-ray within 7 years for positive responders, Annual flu shot;

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for oversight, organization, training, assessment and placement of clinical faculty and instructors and student clinical assignments.
TRAVEL: Assignment/ travel between clinical sites and the Quincy and Plymouth campuses are required.
