The Software and Societal Systems (S3D) department within the School of Computer Science explores the vital intersection of the confluence of software, systems and society to understand how computational biology might better serve humanity. We are studying the bigger picture of computing in context in order to develop tools, policies, methods, and much more - all in the same making the world a safer, more equitable, better place to call home.
We are seeking a Research Associate with a strong foundation in Artificial Intelligence and programming to join our team. This position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects, work alongside a multidisciplinary team, and advance knowledge in AI.
Core responsibilities include:- Researching, crafting, and implementing innovative AI solutions to tackle sophisticated, real-world problems, specifically for supporting public mental health services.
- Analyzing large datasets, develop AI methods, build large language model-based tools, and work optimally in a team.
- Serve as a point of contact and liaison for visitors
- Answering and screening phone calls, schedule meetings and manage calendars

Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning or related field
- Master's Degree preferred
- Minimum of one year of experience in a research role involving AI. Internships and research projects may count toward experience.
- Hands-on engineering experience in developing AI tools, especially large language model-based tools.
- Demonstrated ability in Python and libraries such as PyTorch, or similar frameworks
- Coursework or certification in machine learning or language models.
- Prior experience in interdisciplinary research
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on interpreting complex data
- An equivalent combination of experience and education can be considered
