Vice President for Advancement

The State University of New York College of Technology at Canton (SUNY Canton) invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President of Advancement. The Vice President is the chief advancement officer of the College, reports directly to the President, and serves on the Canton College Foundation. The Vice President also serves as a voting member on the College’s Executive Cabinet. Pending Canton College Foundation Board approval, the Vice President for Advancement serves as the Executive Director of the Canton College Foundation.

Salary: $140,000 - $160,000

Job Requirements and Essential Functions of the Job

The College seeks an individual with a record of accomplishment as an advancement leader, development officer, and a fundraiser. A strong background in alumni relations is a major plus. The Vice President will provide leadership, vision, and direction for Advancement and Alumni Affairs activities and personnel. They will actively participate in identifying, cultivating, and nurturing the relationships that lead to development of major and planned gifts. The Vice President will work with all constituencies of the College and Foundation to understand the mission and priorities of the college and to develop strategies to provide support for those priorities. They will have an effective leadership style conducive to establishing collegial relationships with community and industry leaders.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited college is required.
  • At least seven years of successful experience in fundraising in positions of increasing authority including a history of strong staff management skills.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and foundation to translate College priorities into compelling cases for support.
  • A strong record of developing and cultivating relationships with alumni and prospective donors from industry and foundations.
  • A successful background in most of the following areas of solicitation: major gifts, estates, planned gifts, and developing annual giving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in launching and leading a capital campaign and other successful fundraising activities.
  • An earned master’s degree from an accredited college.
  • A successful record of writing and winning competitive grants.
  • Experience engaging with a broad range of potential donors and supporters from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that fundraising strategies are inclusive and accessible to all.
