Position Highlights

The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is seeking a Database Specialist to work in the Department of Internal Medicine. As a Database Specialist, collaborate with researchers in designing database builds for physician initiated and industry sponsored clinical trials. Under the direction of the supervisor, you will also gather data from various databases and sources, evaluate new platforms and techniques, maintain databases, and provide consultations with clinical research teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with supervisor, researchers, and clinical teams to design and build databases for clinical trials either industry sponsored or investigator initiated.
  • Under PI direction, builds databases based on sponsor provided electronic data capture forms and IRB approved protocol.
  • Customize database layouts to meet specific trial requirements and ensure compliance with research protocols.
  • Support requests to periodically update database builds based on protocol amendments and/or researcher needs with direct supervision from the study manager or database manager.
  • Assigns access to study team dependent upon their delegated role.
  • Monitors database system availability and overall functionality and optimizes database performance.
  • Conduct routine audits and updates to maintain database functionality and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Tests and maintains relational database software including patches, updates and upgrades and related hardware.
  • Identify and resolve errors or inconsistencies in real-time to ensure data reliability.
  • Support and monitor databases for data quality, completeness, and adherence to study protocols.
  • Generate data quality reports and communicate with study managers.
  • Assists Compliance Team with coordination of regulatory activities such as development of electronic source documents including electronic informed consent forms and compliance projects.
  • Support user access privileges, and support staff/user FAQ.
  • Provides ongoing database support to study teams.
  • Under PI direction, participates as a team member on database design and development projects.
  • Participate in meetings with clinical research teams to understand data requirements and provide consultation on database capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with clinical research functioning in the role of a clinical research coordinator or regulatory coordinator.

* Prior experience building databases in REDCap.
