Position Summary

Kellogg Community College (KCC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader for the role of Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS). As a federally funded program, TRIO SSS at KCC serves 250 eligible students, providing vital academic, personal, and financial support to ensure student success.

The Director is responsible for the overall administration, leadership, and management of the TRIO SSS program, ensuring compliance with U.S. Department of Education regulations and alignment with the college's mission. This position oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of program services, as well as budget management, reporting, and grant compliance. The Director will prepare and submit annual and quarterly performance reports, ensuring that program activities are aligned with project objectives and federal guidelines.

The Director will supervise a team of dedicated staff, fostering their professional growth and ensuring a supportive environment for staff and students. This role also collaborates closely with various college departments, including Financial Aid, the KCC Foundation, and external community partners, to provide seamless support for student participants.

With a focus on student success, the Director will implement retention strategies, develop student success workshops, and provide academic and personal support to participants through a case management approach. Additionally, the Director will coordinate on- and off-campus events, such as student success workshops, graduation celebrations, and cultural enrichment activities, to promote community engagement and personal growth among TRIO students.

Physical Demands

The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as independent mobility between work areas, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.



Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Education, Social Work or other related field, obtained from an accredited college or university.
  2. Minimum of three (3+) years of experience working in higher education.
  3. Strong understanding of federal regulations governing TRIO/SSS programs.
  4. Grant writing and management experience.
  5. Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  6. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Proficiency in using student information systems and data management tools.

Preferred but not Required

  1. Experience working in a TRIO/SSS program or similar student support role.
  2. Experience with the construction and submission of TRIO/SSS APR.
  3. Experienced successful submission and award of TRIO/SSS grant.
  4. Direct experience using Colleague, Informer, Starfish and BLUMEN.
  5. Share a background with similar challenges as the population to be served.

Proposed Salary

According to the Kellogg Community College Hay Administrative Compensation program, the 2024-2025 annual salary range for a Director 1 position, $71,811 to $89,764 to start.

Job Duties


Essential Function: Grant Oversight/Management

Description:

  • Develop and implement all activities and services in a manner to meet the SSS project objectives.
  • Prepare and submit reports including but not limited to Annual Performance Reports and quarterly reports; ensure that accurate and complete data is maintained for compliance and performance reports.
  • Interpret and implement U.S. Department of Education regulations applicable to the programs, ensuring internal accountability and compliance.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, monitor, and evaluate all direct student services provided within the programs and project objectives.
  • Establish a timeline for annual schedules and deliver program activities, goals, and objectives as specified in the grant proposals.
  • Implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of program activities and interventions.
  • Implement procedures to recruit, assess, identify, and select eligible program participants as specified by federal guidelines.
  • Develop and monitor program budgets, managing the SSS programs in accordance with fiscal and program rules.
  • Plan and project program expenditures, maintaining regular consultation with the College's grant and financial staff.
  • Maintain open communication with the College's Financial Aid and Foundation offices to coordinate financial aid awards, scholarships, and supplemental grant awards.
  • Maintain a network of communication with various campus departments to ensure the seamless coordination of services and support for students.
  • Responsible for writing TRIO/SSS grant submissions.
  • Act as principal liaison between the project, the U. S. Department of Education and the College.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the U.S. Department of Education, other college departments and community leaders with regard to the project.
  • Develop and administer annual project budget, approve and oversee project expenditures and maintain records in compliance with federal guidelines.
  • Monitor and evaluate program progress and performance, including the budget.

Essential Function: Student Success

Description:

  • Provide academic and personal support to TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) students utilizing a comprehensive case management approach. Case management includes monitoring student progress and utilizing various retention strategies as needed to ensure student success.
  • Design, implement, and co-lead student success workshops/information sessions related to financial literacy, FAFSA completion, transfer/scholarship/job fairs, etc.
  • Coordinate on and off-campus events and tours for program participants.
  • Coordinate semesterly welcome events for new program participants.
  • Plan and host graduation celebration events/activities for program participants.
  • Collaborate with and direct students as appropriate to specific campus resources, including but not limited to Counseling, Career Services, Advising, Tutoring, Disability Services and Financial Aid.
  • Facilitate support, goal-setting and personal growth opportunities for SSS program participants.
  • Coordinate, develop and facilitate programming including but not limited to educational workshops, guest speakers/lecturers, cultural enrichment opportunities, and community building offerings.
  • Foster student participation in programs.

Essential Function: Department Management

Description:

  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Direct the activities and evaluate the performance of department staff.
  • Develop the professional growth of department staff using methods, not limited to staff and individual meetings, in-service training activities, participation in TRIO conferences, workshops, and job-related seminars.
  • Monitor and maintain TRIO/SSS communication with critical internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve on various committees as appointed.
  • Build and foster a sense of community among program participants.

Essential Function: Campus Engagement and Participation

Description:

  • Network and collaborate with college and community stakeholders to connect students to necessary resources. Connection may include financial assistance through the KCC Foundation and/or other campus/community resources.
  • Provide a distinct presence for special programs at campus events including program participant representation (Bruin Blast/Boost, etc.).
