POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Campus Ministry is a key figure in the promotion of the university’s mission and values. This role is responsible for leadership, planning, and execution of a wide range of student-centered activities and experiences that promote the CSJ mission and Catholic identity of the university as it relates to individual discernment, spiritual growth, and engagement with and service to the community. Avila University is a Catholic University founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, whose mission is to “love God and the Dear Neighbor without distinction, that all may be one.”
Responsibilities:
- Provide opportunities for Catholic spiritual formation for the campus community in ways that align with the university’s CSJ identity and the university’s commitment to religious diversity.
- Facilitate inclusive inter-religious and interfaith opportunities for the student body.
- Work with other campus entities to create and promote high-impact co-curricular service and community engagement opportunities that align with the university’s mission and values.
- Design and implement campus liturgies and campus wide prayer opportunities for various celebrations and in response to various needs.
- Plan and implement a consistent timeline of retreats and other types of student-centered programming.
- Work with the Office of Marketing and Communication to promote Campus Ministry as an agent for community engagement, spiritual health, and advocate for social justice through acts of service and learning.
- Manage Campus Ministry budget and office: order supplies, pay bills, balance monthly statements, oversee fundraising activities, schedule events on University calendar, schedule transportation, etc.
- Collaborate with other Campus Ministers through ACSSJ and participate in professional campus ministry gatherings at local, regional, and national level, as appropriate.
- Serve as member of the Mission Committee to advocate for and represent mission-related needs
- Supervise Diocese-appointed clergy (including chaplains, priests, etc.) as well as any Graduate Assistants and/or work study students.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University’s policies and applicable laws, including planning, assigning, and directing work; verifying time sheets; appraising performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry, Theology, or a related area.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Catholic campus ministry.
- Experience working with diverse populations, as they span gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, and other identity markers.
- Strong knowledge of and support for restorative justice and conflict resolution techniques.
- Bilingual candidates are highly preferred.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Evening and weekend hours required.
