Job Description
The Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology at Idaho State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in direct practice Social Work beginning August 2025. We seek applicants who can teach direct practice coursework in our undergraduate and graduate social work programs, as well other core and elective courses.
We are open to a variety of research interests for this position, as well as a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches. Teaching duties for this position are a 3/3 load and include in-class, broadcast (synchronous online), and online (asynchronous) formats. The successful candidate will be expected to grow and maintain an active research program, including publishing in scholarly journals and submitting grant proposals, and to fill service roles in the department, college, university, and community.
The hired candidate will work at either Idaho State University's Pocatello or Meridian campus.

Faculty in the department use a wide variety of methods and approaches to contribute to many areas of research and learning, including the community and environment, child welfare, mental health, sexual diversity, and forensic social work.
Key Responsibilities
You must submit the following to be considered for this position:
1) cover letter that addresses the position criteria and includes a statement of their teaching and research interests;
2) a curriculum vitae that lists direct social work practice experience
3) a representative manuscript or writing sample;
4) the names and contact information for three professional references
Review of applications will begin January 24, 2025, and continue until the position is filled.
Salary will be between $65,000 - $75,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. - Undertake continued scholarship in your specialization, including publishing in scholarly journals and submitting grant proposals
- Service to the department, college, university, and community
- MSW from a CSWE accredited program and a Ph.D. in a related social science field (ABD applicants will be considered and must complete their Ph.D. by June, 2025)
- Two or more years post-MSW direct social work practice experience
- Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Evidence for potential excellence in teaching in a variety of formats, including synchronous and asynchronous online classes
- Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
- Five years direct practice experience
- Direct practice experience working with individuals, families, groups, or communities
- Experience or interest in teaching foundation courses on social science research methods or program evaluation
