Position Highlights

The Center for Applied Transportation Sciences in the College of Engineering at the University of Arizona works with partnering agencies and institutions on research and education in transportation systems management and operations, and performance management, as well as mobility on demand.

The Center for Applied Transportation Sciences (CATS) is looking for a database administrator to provide systematical solutions to support the service in transportation research and help the center to manage inventory, database design and management, programming projects, and IT device maintenance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Database Design and Management

  • Design databases for storing transportation-related data.
  • Design databases for supporting transportation analysis and application features.
  • Optimize databases for fast data retrieval.
  • Handle data sharing and integration with various applications.

System Design

  • Design and maintain data management lifecycle.
  •  Document system operation. 
  • Mentor students to conduct the tasks listed above.

Programming Projects and Experience Optimization

  • Assist in the development of web back end for R/Shiny web applications.
  • Develop tools for data I/O operations.
  • Update and maintain existing software.
  •  Connect to and host APIs.
  • Design user interfaces based on project requirements.
  • Spec and set up new servers.
  • Maintain center website.
  • Optimize user experience on existing R shiny dashboard.

Device Maintenance

  • Maintaining servers.
  • Repair and setup computers for the center.
  • Handle changes to center displays (e.g. TV Wall).
  • Software and hardware support for center staff.

IT Inventory

  • Maintain a list of all IT-related inventory.
  • Handle equipment check-in and check-out.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • Up to 1-year relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in computer science, information system management, or engineering related field.
  • Experience in a Transportation emphasis with transportation data experience preferred.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.
