Job Description:

The Department of English and Humanities invites applications for the position of Lecturer of Literature and Composition. This is a non-tenure track position. The start date for this position is Fall 2025. We seek candidates who are committed to the department's mission and able to teach classes across its areas of emphasis. General experience teaching composition and literature is preferred. Excellence in teaching and commitment to departmental service will be emphasized in the selection process.

Candidates may specialize in any field of English but must demonstrate ability or willingness to teach across both English and Composition fields. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have experience or desire to teach technical writing, introductory literature courses, and additional department offerings.

The responsibilities of this position include a 5/5 teaching load and departmental service according to the needs of the department. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and a high level of competence in teaching. The faculty member may be expected to teach in multiple formats including hybrid, online and traditional face-to-face classes.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.A. in English, Humanities, Composition, or Rhetoric from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Open availability to teach classes across the five-day schedule according to departmental needs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A terminal degree in English, Humanities, Composition, or Rhetoric from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching technical writing, first-year composition, and introductory literature courses.
  • Three or more years of experience teaching college courses.
  • Commitment to departmental and college-wide service.

Additional Information:

This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Tuesday, November 19, 2024, and ending Monday, December 2, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • SALARY: $65,000 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $69,000 Total Compensation.
  • ANTICIPATED START DATE: Fall semester 2025
