Job Summary
Provides strategic council and works collaboratively with dean(s) and department head(s) on public relations activities that enhance the reputation of college(s) and/or department(s). Works collaboratively with university marketing on projects and/or providing support for campaigns, etc. Responsible for writing a variety of college or department media, both print and electronic, which may include news and feature stories submitted for the Kennesaw State University Magazine. Writes for internal and external communication platforms, press releases, stories for the web, and other projects as assigned as it relates to the assigned area.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops written content, including feature stories, news releases and media advisories, but may also include blog posts, social media content, marketing copy, talking points and other forms of communication to help promote the college or department T
2. Proactively identifies and develops story ideas (student, faculty and alumni successes, college or initiatives, research, etc.) by building relationships with colleagues from the various academic and administrative units in collaboration with Strategic Communications
3. Shoots, edits, incorporates music and/or voiceover, and still photography to produce professional quality multimedia and video content from storyboarding, scriptwriting and final editing to final product to be disseminated across all communication channels
4. Shoots high quality photography of all college events, special projects such as faculty and staff photography for digital and print products such as brochures, to include in video production, flyers, etc.
5. Assists in the development and enhancement of the annual communications strategic plan for the department
6. Collaborates closely with a variety of stakeholders on all aspects of projects including planning, content, production level and platforms, turnaround time, edits and approvals
7. Works with the department's social media team to leverage analytics to determine the effectiveness of activities and makes continual improvements
8. Serves as "on-air" reporter for college or department special events in conjunction with university stakeholders
9. Develops and executes new multimedia projects (video and/or audio) (e.g., video news releases, weekly series and/or other programming to promote the college
10. Assists social media team to develop organic video and audio content for Instagram Reels and other platforms
12. Serves as subject matter expert working with department staff to develop compelling video and audio content to supplement their stories
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Required Experience
Four (4) years of experience in Journalism, Public Relations or related field
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid and unrestricted Georgia driver's license

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Preferred Experience
Previous experience in higher education digital media, marketing and/or communications

KNOWLEDGE
Working knowledge of Associate Press Style with experience in using digital media equipment, video creation, editing software, and/or motion graphics and effects software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro and/or After Effects and Photoshop
Knowledge of journalism principles, techniques, and digital best practices
Knowledge in production techniques including videography, compression and file delivery, and other production formats
Knowledge in all aspects of professional quality productions, including field and studio camera, lighting, sound, editing and online video environment and online distribution
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, cloud-based applications)
Skills in video, multimedia development and video storytelling from concepting to shooting
Strong writing and editing ability
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills, phone, and e-mail etiquette
