Location

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Department Information

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University (KSU) is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology with a preferred start date of August 2025. This is a nine-month contracted position for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates for this nine-month tenure-track position will be expected to:

  • Establish an independent, productive, and sustainable research program in the area of medical microbiology (examples include but are not limited to: infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, bacteriology, immunology, mycology, pathogenesis, parasitology, virology, etc.), as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding.
  • Mentoring of undergraduates and graduate students.
  • Teaching expectations include undergraduate courses in microbiology and biology, as well as the development of graduate courses that integrate microbiology with other biological subdisciplines.
  • Commitment to teaching that promotes student success among the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) disciplines and invest deeply in KSU students.
  • Participate in professional service within the Department, the College of Science and Mathematics, the University and beyond.
Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • A Terminal/Doctorate degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Biology, Microbiology or a related discipline
  • A strong record of peer-reviewed publications in Microbiology
  • Postdoctoral research experience in Microbiology or a related discipline
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of current or previous external funding
  • Previous experience teaching biology courses and labs in the university setting and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
