POSITION SUMMARY: Principal faculty report directly to the Chair/Program Director (PD) and are responsible for the ongoing development, management, delivery, and evaluation of the PA Program curriculum. Primary duties initially include working under the direction of the Chair/Program Director with the Director of Didactic Education to develop courses in the didactic clinical curriculum. Primary duties transition to teaching; ensuring student achievement of objectives, outcomes, competencies; and committee participation. Other duties include service, student advising, scholarship, and professional activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, depending on qualifications:

ADMINISTRATION

· Participate in the student applicant admission process including applicant file reviews, interviews, and applicant selection.

  • Implement, coordinate, and evaluate the curriculum.
  • Participate in the continuous quality improvement related to course and program assessment.
  • Participate in the ARC-PA application, self-study, and site visit activities necessary in acquiring provisional and continuing program accreditation.
  • Assist in the development, review, and revising as necessary of the program mission statement, goals, and competencies.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Didactic Education and Chair/Program Director in the development and revision of syllabi for the assigned didactic courses in accordance with ARC-PA and institutional requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Didactic Education and Chair/Program Director in the curriculum management process ensuring there is horizontal and vertical integration of outcomes/objectives and competencies in the curriculum database.
  • Instruct, evaluate student performance, advise, and provide academic counseling for didactic and clinical PA students.

TEACHING

  • Serve as course director for assigned course(s) as determined by the Director of Didactic Education and Chair/Program Director.
  • Serve as lecturer and/or small group facilitator
  • Team teach additional courses
  • Participation in the grading of physical assessment, skills, competencies.
  • Provide remedial instruction, assure the availability of remedial instruction for all students, and assist in the retention of PA students during the didactic and clinical educational training.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuation of innovative and integrated teaching and learning strategies to include instructional technologies and simulation learning.
  • Ensure achievement of instructional objectives, learning outcomes, and program competencies in the curriculum.
  • Serve as advisor to PA students.
  • Participate in educational research and scholarship to foster a learning community of educator-scholars who will ensure educational excellence for all PA students.

SERVICE

  • Serve on PA program committees, chairing committees as assigned.
  • Participate in activities of the state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of the PA concept within academic, lay, and professional communities while promoting the Logan University PA Program

SCHOLARSHIP

  • As an accredited program, there will be opportunities to participate in scholarly work individually, in collaboration with PA team members, and other opportunities for interprofessional collaboration.

EDUCATION

  • A Doctorate in an appropriate field of health/medical education or 5+ years of experience as a PA*; program faculty experience is preferred
  • A terminal degree leading to the certification of a PA*.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Required as appropriate to degree possessed.

*Other healthcare professionals such as PharmD, MD, DO will be considered.

EXPERIENCE

  • Current NCCPA certification and eligible for state licensure. (if a PA-C; appropriate licensure if other credential)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, support, and lead diverse groups.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a PA or relevant health care provider preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in working with faculty, administrators, students, and staff within a higher education learning community.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

To perform the job successfully an individual must have a strong academic and Health Professions Education background, with demonstrated administrative and organizational ability. The individual must be able to set goals and objectives, prioritize and plan work activities, and meet deadlines. The individual must be an effective mentor. The ability to handle pressures of balancing the time required dealing with individual problems students while completing necessary planning, meetings, and teaching responsibilities are expected.
