Floor TechnicianPosition Summary
The position is responsible for the overall cleanliness and upkeep of their assigned Residence Hall areas. The incumbent reports to the Environmental Services Supervisor.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES- Scrub, strip, wax and polish floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubber and buffers;
- Vacuum rugs in offices and public areas. Shampoo rugs periodically using heavy vacuum cleaner and rug shampooing machine;
- Move heavy furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment, as directed;
- Report items that need repair (doors, door checks, furniture lights, faucets, etc.);
- Sweep or shovel snow from steps and walks at building entrances and connecting walks;
- Use light and heavy (industrial type) floor machines and attachments;
- Transport moderately heavy objects or equipment as required;
- Clean, oil, and adjust cleaners and scrubbers and change brushes, pads, rollers, buffers and other attachments;
- Remove wash and replace ceiling lighting fixtures using ladders and scaffolds;
- Replace room overhead incandescent and fluorescent lights;
- Replace desk lights;
- Distribute housekeeping supplies as needed;
- Setup and maintain conference rooms in a clean and efficient manner;
- Periodic dusting and sweeping of residence hall stairs;
- Inspect and clean interior and exterior residence hall windows;
- Clean and shine residence hall elevators.
Required Qualifications
Must have a High School Diploma or GED or provide proof of current enrollment in an accredited GED Program which must be completed within one (1) year of employment. Three or more years of experience preferred.Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to interact in a diverse community and able to adapt to changing situations.
Good oral and written communication skills required, with the ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondence such as letters and internal e-mail communications. Ability to speak effectively when interacting with the Spelman community.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to utilize e-mail systems such as Lotus Notes/Outlook. Basic computer software skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) are preferred. These include creating such things as general correspondence, equipment status reports, and cleaning supply requests.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: walk and stand for prolonged periods, use hands to handle office supplies maintenance products, operate computer, and operate cleaning equipment; talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to: reach with hands and arms, stoop or climb, smell, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee occasionally is required to: sit, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
