Description of primary duties and responsibilities:

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

Description of Work Continued:

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic support to program participants and to improve academic performance and prepare students for post-secondary education. The Academic advisor provides appropriate needs assessments and academic advisement conducts academic support workshops and financial aid workshops; assists with educational college tours and field trips and conducts workshops for parents and recruit potential participants for the program in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree required in sociology, psychology, counseling, education, social work, math, English, science, or related areas;
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience with federal TRIO programs, teaching experience in secondary school or similar programs for diverse, low-income/first-generation college students; experience providing case management and advising; competent in managing virtual meetings and classroom space, experience overcoming barriers similar to TS participants.
Some work experience in higher education, preferably in academic advising, counseling admissions, enrollment management or student affairs.
