Simpson College, a private, nationally recognized regional college grounded in the liberal arts tradition and affiliated with the United Methodist Church, invites nominations and applications for the position of a tenure-track appointment in Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2025.
Our department supports undergraduate majors in Criminal Justice, Sociology and Human Services. We also support a graduate program in Criminal Justice with an undergraduate and graduate certificate in Trauma and Resilience.
Salary, Rank, and Tenure: The position is a nine-month, tenure track appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. The primary responsibilities of the position include a teaching load of 3/3 in areas of social welfare, equity and change, grant writing, social justice theory, and inequality and justice. The salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications
The position will begin August 2025, and a Ph.D. is preferred in Sociology, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Social Justice, Social Work or related fields. Additionally, successful applicants need to have interdisciplinary interest, a willingness to teach courses in statistics and research methods, and experience and/or expressed interest in working at a primarily residential, liberal arts institution.
We seek candidates with enthusiasm for student advising, new student recruitment, and other ways to support the mission of the institution. This includes (and is not limited to) providing effective instruction and advising to under-represented students and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
Excellence in classroom teaching, grounded in inclusive pedagogy is essential.
