Job Description Summary:
Assists a Program Manager or Program Director in coordinating all activities of a particular program.

(50% Center for African American Health and 50% Frontiers Translational Science Institute)

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager at the Center for African American Health (CAAH) and the Program Manager at Frontiers: University of Kansas Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Community Engagement Coordinator will provide critical support to both organizations in advancing their missions through community engagement and research initiatives.

For Frontiers, the incumbent will support the Community and Collaboration Core and the Network Capacity Core by contributing to community engagement efforts with vulnerable populations, navigating core resources, maintaining documentation, and collecting and reporting data in alignment with funder requirements.

At CAAH, the Coordinator will play a key role in promoting health equity within the African American community. This involves close collaboration with the Center's leadership to advance research initiatives that align with CAAH's four pillars-research, education, service, and policy. The role also includes engaging with community health stakeholders, analyzing data, and supporting the development of research proposals.

**The position works within a hybrid model, with both on-site and remote responsibilities, and will require occasional evening and weekend hours. Must have reliable transportation.

There is significant overlap in the communities and stakeholders served by both centers, and the coordinator will work collaboratively across Kansas City, Wichita, and with faculty and staff at the University of Kansas Medical Center. **

Job Description:

Job Duties
  • Collaborate with the Center for African American Health (CAAH) to support their research and community engagement activities in Kansas City and Wichita, ensuring alignment across the four pillars of research, education, service, and policy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, vulnerable populations, and organizations, fostering collaborations between Frontiers researchers and the community, particularly those engaged with CAAH and other Frontiers Community Health Workers (CHWs) as part of the Partnership Support Team.
  • Organize and attend community events to increase awareness of both CAAH and Frontiers, promoting engagement and representing both organizations at key gatherings and meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for bi-directional feedback between researchers and community stakeholders to enhance collaboration on future research projects and expand Frontiers' research engagement with vulnerable populations.
  • Develop and execute strategies to increase visibility and support for CAAH's initiatives across the communities it serves, enhancing understanding through educational events and regular community engagement.
  • Coordinate closely with the Frontiers Communication Partners Project Manager to maintain a registry of community partners and stakeholders, tracking new connections and collaborations between researchers, community members, and advocacy groups, such as the MARG (Multi-Advocacy Research Group).
  • Support the coordination of activities between CAAH, Frontiers, and other core partners, ensuring a unified approach in community-based initiatives and event planning.
  • Assist in the development of strategies that facilitate easy two-way communication between vulnerable communities and research teams, ensuring that their needs and feedback are effectively integrated into ongoing research efforts.
  • Work across the four pillars of CAAH's programming in Kansas City and Wichita to ensure successful implementation of each initiative, engaging local stakeholders and expanding community awareness of the Center's work.
Pillar Directors

1. Service

Represent the organization at community events to build presence and relationships. Provide support and assistance during local events and initiatives. Increase organizational visibility through active participation in community activities.

2. Education

Locate essential contact information (phone numbers/emails) for community coordination. Manage and coordinate repair projects and community-led ground support activities. Ensure that community members have access to necessary resources and information.

3. Research

Gather data related to events and environmental projects. Attend relevant meetings to stay informed and engaged.

4.Policy

Attend and represent the community at capitol meetings and state-level discussions. Advocate for community health needs and policies at the state level.

Required Qualifications

Education: Associate degree in business, public health, health administration, or closely related field.

Work Experience:
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience using data management systems and/or programs.
Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree

Work Experience:
  • Prior experience in community settings (organizations, non-profit, government, etc.).
  • Coordinate and attend community events, serving as a liaison between the organization and local stakeholders.
  • Led the implementation of community-focused programs, managing project timelines and stakeholder communication.
Skills
  • Strong background in community engagement, program coordination, or a related field.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple locations and manage diverse programmatic needs.
  • Experience with program implementation and capacity building is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
