Job Description Summary:
The role of the Assistant Professor/radiation oncology physicist is to provide clinical physics support to the department of Radiation oncology including patient treatment planning, equipment calibrations, QC and QA measurements, patient dosimetry, new procedure development, and consultation services to the physicians on medical physics issues.

Job Duties Outlined:
  • Involved in site preparation, commissioning and acceptance testing of the new radiation treatment systems.
  • Maintains primary responsibility for clinical radiation therapy equipment operations, including workflow through the department.
  • Identifies and resolves daily operational issues related to the radiation therapy equipment aspects of patient care.
  • Interacts with all sections of the department, including physicians, nursing, physicists and therapists to ensure smooth patient treatment delivery with technology.
  • Provides daily direction and supervision of various staff, including Physicists, Dosimetrists, Therapists, and radiation therapy staff.
  • Ensures that the quality assurance and monitoring plans achieve the goal of ensuring the highest quality of patient care and patient safety.
  • Maintains knowledge of current industry standards set by professional organizations, including the American College of Radiology and the American Association for Physicists in Medicine, and other sub-specialty organizations as indicated especially in MRI and MRL.
  • Actively participates in the education/research program of hospital and department.
  • Ensures that appropriate quality measures and training are in place for the safe and accurate treatment.
  • Assists with and is able to perform broader role in oncology physics duties for 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT and other treatment modalities offered in the department.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Completion of a PhD in Physics, Medical Physics, or other related physician science field of study.
  • Work Experience: 2 years of radiation employment experience.
  • Certification/License: Completion of CAMPEP approved medical physics residency.
Skills:
  • Demonstrates ability to develop adoptive therapy and innovative treatments.
  • Demonstrates proficiency and competence in providing and directing patient care for all age groups, including pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Demonstrates ability to develops and maintain all required and appropriate documentation for daily, monthly and annual calibration.
