Job Summary / Basic Function
PennWest Edinboro is a small campus of a regional public state university with unusually large and respected Visual Arts programs composed of 600+ majors. Within the Visual Arts, the top three enrolled programs are Animation, Graphic & Interactive Design, and Illustration. Illustration has 70 students in the major concentration and many more minors.
The university is located about 20 miles south of Erie, PA in northwestern Pennsylvania and within 110-mile radius of Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. The university values experience with diverse populations.
The Visual and Performing Arts Department and its growing Illustration program invite applications for this full-time, tenure track position to begin in Fall 2025.
Qualifications:
MFA in Illustration or related arts field. Experience with and knowledge of related professions. Teaching experience at the college level (3 years minimum preferred.) Professional illustration experience and a high-quality, professional portfolio are required. Strong, dedicated teaching and exceptional understanding of design principles and color theory is expected. The program focuses on traditional media and skills for the entire first year; proficiency in a wide range of analog and digital media is expected. Some knowledge of 2D and 3D animation programs is appreciated but not required.
Tenure track positions carry expectations of deep engagement in three categories: teaching, research, and service. These expectations are delineated in policies for tenure and promotion which have been negotiated and agreed upon. In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, performance review and evaluation of faculty is based on effective fulfillment of professional responsibilities in each of these areas.

A successful interview and demonstration of relevant abilities are required. Submit a letter of interest, vita, unofficial graduate and undergraduate transcripts, statement of teaching philosophy, 20 images of professional work and 20 images of student work, including lists identifying and describing the work.

Course Responsibilities:
Illustration I & II, Special Topics (in Illustration), and Advanced Illustration I & II.
3/3 Course load. The candidate will teach all levels of Illustration. Classes are taught face-to-face. Some 2D Foundations courses may at times be taught as needed.
