Simpson College seeks candidates for the position of Director of Advancement Services & Technology. As a member of the Advancement leadership team this position provides leadership and strategic direction for the operational infrastructure within the Office of College Advancement. The Director is responsible for data-informed strategy development, CRM management, data reporting and analytics, oversight of gift recording, stewardship and prospect research, and enforcement of data integrity and data security. The Director develops, facilitates and reinforces best practices around operational and technical policies and procedures. The Director is a proven leader, mentor and collaborative colleague who is comfortable spearheading major initiatives, managing growth and change and supporting the development of others.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as the customer relationship management (CRM) software (Slate) administrator, including integration with other systems across the institution. Provides direction and implements/configures systems and technology that support the core activities of the department, including development, alumni relations, donor relations, records management and gift recording.
  • Produces reports and dashboards that guide data-informed decision making and support strategic initiatives of the advancement division and facilitate the achievement of fundraising and constituent relations goals and priorities.
  • Supervises Gift Administration, ensuring appropriate policies and procedures for donor, gift and fund record management and appropriate policies and guidelines for gift acceptance and compliance. Works with the Business Office to ensure proper financial reconciliation and reporting. 
  • Supervises Stewardship ensuring appropriate policies and procedures for stewardship of gifts and endowed funds that uphold donor intent. Works with the Business Office to ensure accurate and timely fund creation and fund management as well as accurate/timely documentation and reporting. 
  • Supervises Prospect Research ensuring appropriate policies and procedures related to identification of needs and priorities are matched with opportunities for donors to support those needs.
  • Provides documentation, training, and support related to the division and campus; supports end users of CRM/Slate. 
  • Helps to ensure that the appropriate advancement policies are in place and followed. Must be current with Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Voluntary Support of Education Surveys (VSE), state and federal legislation (including IRS rules and regulations) and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices within a successful Advancement Office, including knowledge of IRS guidelines for charitable giving, regulations around transactions and acceptable verbiage for gift receipts, as well as a working knowledge of CASE standards
  • Five (5) years of successful experience working with CRMs. Higher Education experience in advancement and/or with Slate is a plus. 
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement programs at a level acquired by a Bachelor’s degree and sufficient experience managing numerous and competing priorities. Well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze components and arrive at a logical course of action.
  • Self-motivated leader who selects, develops, and leads a high-performing team that produces accurate and timely work.
  • Track record of taking initiative and thinking creatively to resolve questions.
  • Proven collaborator who approaches all work and interactions with empathy and inclusion, with demonstrated success in creating relationships across cross-functional teams of varying levels.
  • Ability to use discretion when dealing with sensitive, confidential information.
