Job Description Summary:
Dr. Lane Christenson's Laboratory seeks to recruit a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow, trained in the field of female reproductive biology, to join in the investigation of the maternal age on oocyte function and specifically the impact of endoplasmic reticular stress on oocyte quality. The project involves oocyte culture, in vitro maturation and fertilization, microinjection and exogenous cRNA expression, as well as live cell and fixed cell confocal/superresolution imaging. As part of the Center for Reproductive Sciences (CRS), our lab interacts actively with this very productive group with interests in reproductive endocrinology, follicle development and ovulation, male and female contraception, embryo development and implantation as well as reproductive tract diseases. Fellows are included in Center activities and are encouraged to interact with other labs in our group as well as visiting scientists as part of their professional training. This Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available for a highly motivated individual. The applicant must have a PhD in biology/biochemistry or related fields, postdoctoral fellows with 2-3 years of experience are also applicable. Applicants are preferred to have experience in oocyte manipulation and fertilization research, molecular biology, and cell biology. Experience with microinjection or an interest in learning this technique is preferred. The Postdoc Fellow will be conceptually involved in experimental design, be responsible for day-to-day performance of the research project, data generation, analysis, and preparation for publications. The Postdoc Fellow will work independently and under the supervision of the PI. The position will also be responsible for keeping experimental records and animal records. The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.

Job Description:

Job Duties:

Perform general research experiments under the direction of the PI, including but not limited to:
  • Manage and work with young and aged mice including oocyte recovery, in-vitro maturation, IVF and embryo culture.
  • Execute siRNA microinjections, confocal and super resolution microscopy,
  • Perform various research techniques on mice.
  • Complete biochemical assays, including but not limited to DNA, RNA, and protein assays.
  • Conduct histology analysis.
  • Participate in regular communication with the PI via lab meetings and personal meetings.
  • Generate, document, and analyze data, and prepare abstract/poster/manuscript for conferences and published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.
  • Follow established quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures, including appropriate documentation.

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • PhD in biology/biochemistry, or related field with expertise in reproductive biology with preferred expertise in gamete research.
Work Experience:
  • Experience working in a molecular biology research laboratory.
  • Experience in oocyte and early embryonic experimental procedures.
  • Experience in using mouse models.
Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:
  • Experience in oocyte / early embryonic mouse development.
  • Experience in use of mouse models and general techniques intraperitoneal injection is preferred.
  • Experience in RNA sequencing and data analysis is preferred.
  • Training and experience in histology is preferred.
Skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills when interact with the scientific community.
  • Ability to work on a team and independently.
  • Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Evidence of 1st author publications in the field of Reproductive Biology.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
