Job Description:
The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice in the Cook-Cole College of Arts & Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure track position (F0322) at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2025. The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree in criminology, criminal justice, or a closely related field.
The department seeks a generalist in criminology or closely related field who is excited to teach a variety of undergraduate courses within the department's current offerings in criminology, and offer new courses to address current topics and issues in the field of criminology and criminal justice. Candidates who are able to contribute to the department's inequalities and diversities area in criminology and who are able to teach theory will be given preference. The successful candidate will teach 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses, contribute to advising students in the major, pursue scholarly activities, and provide service to the department, college, and university. Longwood's criminal justice program has approximately 200 undergraduate majors.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. degree in criminology, criminal justice, or a closely related field. Candidates who are ABD may apply but must have the Ph.D. conferred prior to the beginning of the Fall 2025 semester.
- Candidates with demonstrated college teaching ability preferred.
- A demonstrated ability and commitment to working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission is preferred.
Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, tenure track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
