Director of Development
The Citadel Foundation (TCF) is seeking a passionate and driven Director of Development to join our organization. In this position you will leverage best-in-class fundraising strategies and cutting-edge engagement techniques to drive transformative partnerships with our alumni reunion classes. By capitalizing on Citadel alumni’s strong class affinity, as a Director of Development you will gain experience in Campaign Management, Annual Giving, and Major Giving, as well as Planned Giving, while at the same time having an opportunity for career advancement here at TCF. A strong advantage of this position is the built in portfolio of alumni in reunion scopes of 25, 40 and 50 years.
REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Legacy and Class Reunion Campaign Giving
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Fundraising

- Manage a portfolio of assigned prospects and establish ongoing relationships with prospects through face-to-face visits, phone calls, and meaningful donor encounters
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a range of gifts, including campaign gifts, annual gifts, major gifts, and legacy gifts, to attain campaign goals
- Lead and facilitate a comprehensive fundraising campaign leading up to a milestone class reunion (25th, 40th, or 50th)
- Collaborate with the TCF team, The Citadel campus partners, and volunteers to develop solicitation strategies for top donor prospects and volunteers
- Facilitate a three-year class campaign for a minimum of three reunion classes
- Develop a comprehensive strategy including goal setting, gift pyramid development, lead solicitor planning, and donor cultivation to meet ambitious reunion campaign goals
- Conduct regular communications with class reunion campaign volunteers through in-person meetings, conference calls, and email; assist in crafting and revising various forms of print and digital communications and marketing materials
· Additional Duties

- Attend TCF, The Citadel, and occasional Athletic Department events as directed
- Support the various program initiatives, to include Volunteers’ Conference, Giving Day, end-of-year fundraising appeals, external marketing & outreach, Homecoming recognition, volunteer workshops, etc.
- Responsible for creating and booking one’s individual travel schedule and managing associated expenses
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- Thorough knowledge of fundraising principles
- Must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision
- Experience with the Microsoft Office suite and other computer applications (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet applications)
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle the needs of a fast-paced work environment and the individual needs of donors and volunteers
- Ability to lead and motivate others
- Ability to create and execute a strategic travel schedule to achieve campaign goals
- Familiarity with and affinity for The Citadel and its mission, including its core values of Honor, Duty, Respect
- Ability to work some nights and weekends as travel and donor events require
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- At least three (3) years of experience in related development/fundraising activity, preferably in higher education
- Experience with volunteer management
- Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT
- Experience with GiveCampus (Volunteer Management), Evertrue or similar volunteer management platforms
- Experience with SAP Concur to book, manage, and execute travel along with accompanying expense reporting
CLASSIFICATION: Salary, Exempt, Full Time, Hybrid work schedule available (upon completion of training)
