Description

The Center for Active WV in the College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Grant Coordinator for the CDC High Obesity Program.

About the Opportunity

This Grant Coordinator position will be responsible for the CDC High-Obesity Program (HOP) Cooperative Agreement strategies for the Early Childcare and Education (ECE) and Family Healthy Weight (FHW) components. In addition, this position will also work with members of the 89 community coalitions to identify and apply for local, state and federal funds to implement environmental and policy improvements related to physical activity and healthy foods in the 8 HOP Counties for ECE and FWP populations. For both the ECE and FHW coordination role, the research associate will conduct landscape assessments, assess readiness, and lead policy, systems, and environment changes in ECE and FHW settings. In the grant coordinator role, staff member will carry out grant coordination duties, including but not limited to identifying grant opportunities, assisting community coalition members in writing grant applications, assigning application components to other members of the coalition and HOP investigators, and overseeing the progress of all grant applications.

What You'll Do

  • Provide program team leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of Early Childcare and Education (ECE) and Family Healthy Weight (FHW) Strategies for the Be Wild, Be Wonderful, Be Healthy Project (Be Healthy).
  • Identify priority needs related to ECE and FHW through communication with community stakeholders and Extension faculty.
  • Provide expertise and assistance to stakeholders and community advisory board in regard to funding opportunities for community-based projects related to the ECE and FHW strategies of the Be Healthy Project.
  • Identify needs and resources for continuing professional development for Extension faculty, staff, and volunteers related to physical activity and public health approaches within communities.
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with state partners including WV Board of Education and local county boards of education, WV Headstart Association, health care organizations, sub-contractors, legislators, local government officials, and media outlets for effective programs addressing community needs related to ECE and FHW.
  • Organize and facilitate community, school and family-based assessments under the directions of the PI and other co-investigators.
  • Maintain accurate schedule of programs/meetings, training workshops and directory of participating county partners and stakeholders.
  • Develop training materials, including written documents, narrated power points, and conduct webinars when needed.
  • Help develop content for ECE/FHW recruiting/marketing materials.
  • Participate, present, train and disseminate information at state and national conferences and training sessions.
  • Disseminate findings to local, state, regional, and national stakeholders.
  • Organize and manage qualitative and quantitative ECE and FHW data systems.
  • Write for academic, popular media and community member audiences.
  • Prepare content for quarterly and annual reports for funding agencies.
  • Attend and participate in professional development and employee training associate with the position.
  • Contribute to other study-related activities as needed.


Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in child and family studies, early childcare and education, public health, community health promotion, curriculum and instruction or related field is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience, preferably in the academic, health or government sector.
    • Working on community-engaged research studies, ideally in rural settings.
    • Conducting research or evaluation in ECE setting and with families.
    • Organizing community-engaged, qualitative and/or quantitative research, including submitting IRB protocols, recruiting participants, preparing all logistics for community-based data collection (e.g., community observations and meetings) and implementing a standardized data collection protocol.
    • Conducting assessments focused on physical activity assets and/or food assets for children/families, and experience in rural settings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Flexible, detail-oriented, and well-organized.
  • Able to coordinate internal study meetings, attend local and national meetings, and coordinate study support and technical assistance with community partners as needed.
  • Able to prepare written materials and presentations for lay and professional audiences.
  • Required - proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Flexibility to travel to engage with community partners and conduct on-site data collection.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, interact, and collaborate with colleagues and community partners in a dynamic team environment.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to form interdisciplinary partnerships and networks within the University and the state.

  • The ability to travel to WVUs regional campuses and/or within the multi-state area is required.
