The Department of Psychiatry welcomes applicants to apply to the Resource and Referral Specialist (RRS)/Senior Clinical Navigator position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Resource call management:

  • Triages calls using own clinical judgment for each service request based on patient's needs.
  • Evaluates potential good fit referral options for each patient. Independently weighs out the patient's needs with available mental health and substance use resources.
  • Creates individualized behavioral health resource lists for providers to share with patients as needed.
  • Collects and maintains accurate records of caller requests for appropriate documenting and reporting.
  • Ensures the highest level of service and satisfaction for medical providers and patients.
  • Outreaches to patients according to program guidelines to discuss medical provider's requests and to educate each patient on available local treatment options.

Integral part of team:

  • Communicates actively with team members when appropriate while working independently on the phone line and managing own referral cases. Collaborates with team members to identify and obtain resources for callers.
  • Offers coverage support to all team members by covering phone shifts and resource and referral case needs.
  • Contributes recommendations for daily workflow and special projects.
  • Assists in development and maintenance of program guidelines and materials.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings to review clinical cases as well as policy updates and programmatic changes.
  • Helps support and offer peer training to new team members and orientation needs for new Arizona Perinatal Psychiatry Access Line (APAL) team members.

Maintains and improves network of resources:

  • Fosters existing and new relationships in medicine and in the community to help facilitate coordination and identification of resources.
  • Develops a protocol for maintenance of resource list and create a process for searching for and identifying new perinatal resources.
  • Maintains knowledge of the field including services covered by Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance.
  • Provides updates on available resources to team members during meetings.
  • Collects data and generates reports on the types of resources requested to identify population needs, trends and barriers to access and ensure continuous improvements to service and access.

Community engagement:

  • Provides trainings for behavioral health programs about perinatal psychiatric needs and utilizing Arizona Perinatal Psychiatry Access Line (APAL) services when appropriate.
  • Attends events in order to comply with the Outreach and Targeting Plans.
  • Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars for perinatal mental health education and program engagement needs. Assists in the coordination and implementation of special projects, workshops and conferences as assigned to enhance community relations and program development.

Additional duties:

  • Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Helps support and offer peer training to new team members and orientation needs for new psychiatric team members.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed. All responsibilities are essential job functions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, orally, and in writing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfort and ability to deliver presentations to health care professionals.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently while prioritizing workload.
  • Ability to research topics related to services for perinatal patients (funding, program design, etc.) and analyze data.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, governmental and nongovernmental regulations and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, which includes Information & Referral (I&R) services, case management, call center services, social services; or related work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in issues of women's health and/or mental health.
  • Prior healthcare office experience to include knowledge of medical terminology and health and wellness.
