Position Highlights

The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) at the University of Arizona invites applications for Zuckerman Endowed Chair in Health Promotion Sciences. We are seeking an exceptional faculty scholar in the field of health promotion.

The successful candidate is expected to lead an impactful research program in health promotion and disease prevention. While the specialty field is open, there is a strong preference for a research program that focuses on improving health equity for underserved and underrepresented communities. This may include addressing modifiable risk behaviors, social determinants of health, strengthening community capacity building, and dissemination and implementation science. The ideal candidate will exhibit a successful history of leading federally funded collaborative research projects. They are also expected to deliver instruction in a university environment and participate in academic and professional service activities, including institutional, professional, and/or community outreach efforts. We seek candidates committed to culturally responsive and inclusive educational practices that advance educational excellence for all our students.

About the Department/College

The Health Promotion Sciences department is located on the Arizona Health Sciences Campus in Tucson. The mission of the department is to collaborate with communities in the southwestern United States to develop innovative responses to health challenges and to translate these best practices globally. Our department brings together more than 45 faculty, professional staff, and experts in public health, nutrition, psychology, kinesiology, epidemiology, infectious disease, anthropology, education and more to address multifaceted factors influencing health. The department of Health Promotion Sciences resides within the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH). MEZCOPH is a the only nationally accredited college of public health in the state of Arizona. It is a rapidly growing and dynamic college whose mission is to promote the health and wellness of individuals and communities in the Southwest and globally with an emphasis on achieving health equity through excellence in education, research, and service. The College's research themes include advancing health equity for diverse populations; biostatistics and methodology; exposure science and risk assessment; global health; health care services research; health informatics; prevention of chronic and metabolic diseases; and prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage
    and maintain ongoing productive research programs in health promotion or
    disease prevention that are well funded.
  • Support College activities in instruction and student mentoring
    including those from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Advise
    and mentor junior faculty and post-doctoral scholars.
  • Support development of staff researchers.
  • Assist in the development of innovative approaches to
    enhance student engagement, increase inclusion, and expanding
    collaborations with community partners.
  • Provide service professionally and across Department,
    College and/or The University.
  • Foster good relationships within the University and
    external groups to strengthen interdisciplinary and ties with community
    organizations, public agencies, discipline societies, industry and other
    related organizations.
  • Foster collaboration with community partners and inter
    and intra-health profession colleges to promote wellness-related research,
    instruction, and/or outreach.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the
    Department Chair or College Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A doctorate (PhD, DrPH, MD, or equivalent terminal
    degree) in a relevant discipline, including but not limited to public
    health, psychology, community health, social work, epidemiology,
    kinesiology, nutrition, geography, or related fields.
  • Academic credentials appropriate for the rank of
    associate/full professor with tenure, including evidence of ability to
    secure research grants and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Scholarly accomplishments with high-quality
    publications in peer-reviewed journals and research funding support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the development and successful implementation of joint, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Multiple years in Professor rank or positions with commiserate professional and research achievements of national global impact.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, evidenced by course evaluations, teaching awards, or other means.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.
