Organizational Unit Overview:
The Division of University Advancement is the friend-raising and fund-raising arm of the general academic areas of the university; therefore, all its activities are designed to generate support, financial or otherwise for East Carolina University. The units and subunits within the division work together to identify, involve, cultivate, and solicit alumni and friends of the university to gain financial support from the private sector for the purpose of enhancing the long- and short-range growth and welfare of the university. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement is responsible for the following units: Alumni Relations, ECU Foundation, Medical and Health Sciences Foundation of ECU and University Development.

Job Duties:
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with a wide variety of constituents including alumni, donors, parents, divisional colleagues, campus partners, and volunteers.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will regularly communicate with current and past donors, as well as those who have yet to become donors, utilizing a multi-channel approach that deploys annual giving methods of outreach.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will build a growing pipeline of philanthropic gifts from donors across the giving spectrum that will support the university and its mission, through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will work closely with the Annual Giving team, Planned Giving team, Regional Gift team, Prospect Development team, Alumni Relations team, and the Division of Student Affairs.
80% Fundraising and Donor Engagement:
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will utilize multiple forms of communication to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward annual giving prospects who are interested in supporting funds across the university.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will acquire charitable support of the university from donors during the university's annual day of giving.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will enhance the matching gift program by communicating with qualifying donors.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will build philanthropy awareness among ECU's newly graduated alumni and within the student body, including soliciting support for the ECU Alumni Association and Student's Treasure Chest.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will facilitate opportunities for donors to hear from current students as part of the annual stewardship plan to engage donors.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will develop ideas for personalized touch points for current and prospective donors.
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will work consistently and accurately with the alumni and donor database to ensure that contacts, solicitations and donor preferences are entered in a timely manner, and donor records are accurate.
20% Enhance Annual Giving and University Advancement Programs;
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will work closely with the Annual Giving team, Alumni Relations team, Planned Giving team, Prospect Development team, and Regional Gift team to maximize fundraising efforts
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will maintain robust knowledge of annual giving trends and fundraising best practices, fulfilling other duties as assigned
  • The Associate Director of Annual Giving will attend university and divisional events and meetings, including some nights and weekends.
Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 3 years of full-time professional experience working in a relationship-based or marketing role, or other related professions
  • Must be proficient using Microsoft Office software
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong active listening and communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage and maintain multiple competing priorities with consistent attention to detail
  • Exhibit time management skills that allow for appropriate follow up and adaptation to emerging needs
  • Understanding of the culture and mechanics of higher education fundraising
  • Familiarity with software like Agilon ONE, Anthology Encompass, Ascend, Blackbaud, EverTrue, and ThankView
  • Comfortable in a team environment with a desire to collaborate with others
  • Familiarity with ECU
  • Demonstrated success in overcoming barriers and problem solving
  • Exceptional relationship building skills
  • Goals oriented, exhibit a strong work ethic, and motivated to be an effective member of this mission driven organization
  • Willing to approach roles and tasks with a commitment to the mission and values of East Carolina University
