Position Highlights

Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Athletic Director/CFO, the Assistant Athletic Director, Financial Reporting & Analysis will be responsible for satisfying the complex financial reporting requirements of the Athletics Department. The Athletic Department is required to compile and complete numerous daily, monthly, and yearly financial reports that will satisfy internal and external constituents including, but not limited to: Federal EADA Report, NCAA/AUP Report, unrelated business income tax report, gift/endowment reports, Board of Regents Report, and other reports as required by the Athletic Department and the university.

This position will also serve as a research analyst within the Athletic Business Office. Researches and develops information systems to support peer comparisons with the department, its programs and personnel. Conducts complex research and analyses beginning with raw data. In addition, prepare recommendations for short term financial planning for the Athletic Department.

This position requires the ability work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and travel as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director, CFO, this position will manage annual budget planning and development and communicates approved budgets to each unit and sport administrator.
  • Responsible for monitoring trends, forecasting, and resolving issues, as needed.
  • Prepare monthly budget reports for 22 sports and 24 support units for distribution to coaches, staff, and senior leadership.
  • Liaison to the university budget office during the budget process and throughout the year.
  • Develops policies that effect operations across the industry.
  • Establishes operational objectives and plans, ensuring sports and units are meeting performance.
  • Manage analytical projects, evaluating findings, preparing reports, and making recommendations to leadership regarding the financial implications of transactions.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Associate AD, CFO to direct the development and
    implementation of financial strategies and recommendations aimed at fulfilling the athletic department's short and long-term goals.
  • Generates long-term financial projections
    regarding operating revenues and expenses. Evaluates progress and results and initiates changes in policies and
    procedures.
  • Controls resources and
    policy formation creating standards for all staff in various units.
  • Implement and lead the fulfillment of athletic department third party contracts and ensure there are processes in place for proper internal review and approval.
  • Develop and manage the Athletics Business Office guidelines (Purchasing and Travel) and make recommendations for process improvements and ways to streamline operations to increase efficiency.
  • Communicate regularly with coaches and staff and develop working relationships with internal and external parties. Will meet with coaches and unit supervisors concerning budget matters.
  • Working with all client groups to define and analyze processes to ensure effective budget solutions are met. Provides leadership to unit leads to ensure expectations are met across all units.
  • Hire, manage, and train the overall responsibilities and performance of at least four Business Office staff members and prepare annual performance evaluations.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and the Senior Associate AD/CFO. Projects and
    additional duties can consist of high levels of importance within the department and
    institution. Partners with
    leadership to recommend solutions.
  • Oversee implementation of programs and initiatives.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint,), Adobe Suite programs and other relevant software required).
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information in clear terms.
  • High ethical standards and professionalism, given the sensitive nature of financial information.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of seven years of related work experience, including three years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters of Business Administration.
  • Seven years or more experience working in a college or university athletic department business office or conference office with demonstrated fiscal and operational management skills.
  • Experience in financial planning and strategy.
  • Experience in developing, managing, and adhering to budgets.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
