Job Summary
The School of Construction and Design at The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track faculty position in Architectural Engineering Technology at the Instructor level, with a target start date of August 2025.

About The School of Construction and Design
The School of Construction and Design (housed in the College of Arts and Sciences) offers degrees in Architectural Engineering Technology, Interior Design and Construction Management. The Architectural Engineering Technology Program offers a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering Technology. The program offers a pre-professional Architecture related degree combining traditional architecture curriculum with construction management curriculum, which prepares our students for several avenues after graduation. About 30-40% of our graduates continue to pursue a M.ARCH degree, while the other students typically works under architects or engineers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach a full load of undergraduate courses each semester (studio and lecture).
  2. Utilize effective teaching methods to ensure that all course outcomes are met.
  3. Support the Architectural Engineering Technology program including new course development and curriculum improvement.
  4. Maintain regular office hours.
  5. Fulfill institutional service duties within the School, College, University, and community.
  6. Engage in student-related activities such as supervising student projects, advising student organizations, and coaching student teams for competitions.
  7. Provide end of the semester course assessment data.
  8. Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) or a Master's degree in architecture or a related field is required. Candidates must possess at least one degree in architecture. Proficiency in design and rendering software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp, is essential. Additionally, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is expected. Strong communication skills and a dedication to fostering a collegial work environment are crucial.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills for managing course content, student assignments, and projects.
  • Ability to apply technology and modern techniques in teaching.
  • Effective time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to integrate real-world experiences and case studies into the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching at the collegiate level is preferred. Professional registration or licensure in architecture is advantageous. Significant industry experience can enhance teaching effectiveness. Proficiency in presentation software, such as the Adobe Photoshop suite, is beneficial. A dedication to innovative teaching methods, student success, and service to the program is essential.
