Job Summary:

The Academic Program Chair supports the Master of Science in Nursing program.  The Program Chair works with the Academic Department Chair to supervise full and part-time faculty in assigned courses, and ensure their involvement in providing course feedback and participation in professional development and in-service activities.  The Program Chair will stay informed on program metrics and initiate proactive measures to improve.

This role will effectively implement appropriate teaching strategies that assist students in achieving their academic potential while providing excellent customer service to all internal and external customers. This position will participate in university census growth and development activities and initiatives. Additionally, the Program Chair will work with the Academic Department Chair on curriculum development, projects, and other duties as assigned.

What to expect in this role:

Faculty Supervision & Development:

  • Directly supervises full-time faculty and part-time adjuncts including interviewing, hiring and training; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving programs.
  • Oversees the development and evaluation of faculty. Reviews faculty performance to ensure maintenance of the classroom standards. Metrics will be faculty compliance with or deviance from those standards.
  • Makes recommendations to the Academic Department Chair and Associate Dean as appropriate related to hiring, evaluation, and retention of faculty in assigned courses. Metrics include percentage of faculty with terminal degrees, student end of term survey results and GPA distribution in sections and courses.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the University as a whole. Assessment will include positive working relationships with peers and external departments.
  • Oversee student academic progress, success, and concerns; meets with students, faculty, and clinical placement team.
  • Partner with the Scheduling Manager for the scheduling of classes and assignment of faculty to the schedule.

Program Development & Oversight:

  • Participate in curriculum development, evaluation and revision with the Academic Department Chair and the Assistant Dean of Curriculum.
  • Review University assessment data for the program, including course level assessment, general education literacies, student and faculty evaluations, employer and graduate surveys; make recommendations for curriculum and other improvements based on data review.
  • Participate in University curriculum development and revision activities. Solicit and post feedback related to the PG curriculum. 
  • Remain current with trends, techniques, and advances in distance learning and graphic arts that are applicable to the program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of accreditation standards, as applicable. Take ownership for all activities related to maintaining good standing with accreditation agencies.
  • Assess program resources and request resources to address gaps.

Engagement & Professional Development:

  • Regularly attend and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Participate regularly in professional development activities such as inservice, continuing education, conference and community presentations, research and publication, internal training and collegial opportunities.
Experience:

    Required:

  •     Doctoral Degree (DNP or PhD) in Nursing and MSN required, from regionally accredited institutions. 
  •     Active unencumbered RN license and APRN license required in one of the following specialties: AGACNP, AGPCNP, or WHNP.
  •     A minimum of 2 years experience in postsecondary nursing education required.

    Preferred:

  •     Two to five years experience in graduate nursing education preferred.
  •     Experience teaching and supervising faculty preferred.
  •     Curriculum experience preferred.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated leadership with a proven ability to train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate employees/staff/faculty.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, balance competing demands for time, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines. 
  • Effective analytical skills with the ability to assess situations, resolve issues or make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a professional demeanor with people at all levels within the organization and from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment across diverse teams, departments, and Schools.
Additional Information:
  • The target salary for this position is $85,000-$90,000.
  • Purdue University Global will not sponsor employment authorization for this position.
