Job Description Summary:
The University of Kansas Medical Center's Geriatric Medicine Division within the Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a faculty member to join its expanding team to support the departmental mission of delivering the highest quality of older adult care, as well as satisfying teaching, research, and academic responsibilities at the region's quaternary referral center.

This position offers a fulfilling opportunity to provide optimal medical care to older adults for surgical and non-surgical patients at The University of Kansas Health System, while also delivering consultative services to colleagues within the faculty. As a clinician educator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals, including Geriatrics Fellows, Internal Medicine residents, Family Medicine residents, and medical students, through hands-on teaching in clinical settings.

As part of our dedicated geriatric team, the faculty member will balance responsibilities between inpatient consultations and coverage in skilled nursing facilities. Regular participation in educational and administrative conferences, as guided by your immediate supervisor, will ensure ongoing professional development and alignment with departmental goals. Collaboration with faculty and interdisciplinary professionals is essential, particularly in implementing the Age Friendly Health System Initiative and contributing to the Landon Center on Aging, which integrates community engagement, education, research, and clinical care.

There are multiple reasons why one should consider a career in the Division of Geriatrics within the Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Kansas Medical Center:

Faculty are leading a geriatrics-friendly transformation of one of the largest healthcare systems in the United States. Geriatrics was ranked #32 in the country, the 14th year in a row that geriatric care at The University of Kansas Health System has been ranked in the top 50 in the nation.

Our research in geroscience brings knowledge from the lab to the community. It is anchored at the Landon Center on Aging and actively collaborates with the KU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.

Our researchers are investigating the basic biology of aging as well as community-based studies to improve functional capacity - both physical and cognitive - in older adults.

Our division offers Geriatrics fellowships as well as interdisciplinary training opportunities with experiences at KUMC and the Kansas City VA and in regional and rural communities.

Moreover, the geriatrics division faculty will have the opportunity to contribute actively to various educational and clinical initiatives aligned with your specific areas of interest and expertise, fostering innovation and excellence in patient care and education. This role promises a dynamic environment where compassionate care, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration converge to promote optimal healthcare outcomes and professional growth.
