Job Summary
The Director of Disability Access Services (DAS) plays a key role in ensuring students have the accommodations they need by interpreting and applying the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and our college's policies. They work closely with various campus offices, schools, and departments, including Academic Advising, Admissions, Student Life, Instructional Technology, and Academic Affairs, to help our students with disabilities thrive. Additionally, the Director collaborates on improving campus access and promoting equity to address any gaps. Every ACC employee is involved in assessing the College's programs, using the results to continuously enhance our institution.

Responsibilities of this role include:
Disability Services, Program Development & Assessment
- Provide leadership and inspire a shared vision for the department and functions related to disability services while outlining strategies that move the team and College closer to realizing that vision.
- Oversee the verification and review of all requests for accommodations; interpret confidential psycho-educational and/or other documentation and make recommendations.
- Ensure ACC compliance with ADA and Section 504 related issues for students. Confer with leadership and Instruction as needed.
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring and supervision of student workers as note-takers, e-text assistants, scribes, and readers for students with disabilities. Support departmental proctoring needs for exams in partnership with the Testing Center.
- Review and maintain annual operating budget; working closely with the Dean of Students to track and project expenses.
- Provide personal growth and disability related advising and case management, and referrals to other appropriate resources.
- Educate students in self-advocacy, encouraging them to make arrangements with faculty and staff members to implement approved accommodations.
- Provide direct services to a caseload or quasi-caseload of students as needed to fulfill the function of disability access services.
- Participate in the administration of inclusive higher education programs and other efforts that lead to positive outcomes in enrollment, persistence and retention of students with disabilities.
- Advocate for accessibility by partnering with Facilities, Marketing, Academic departments, and all other departments.
- Develop and implement training for staff and faculty. Present accessibility and disability information at campus events for students, faculty, and staff.
- Act as liaison with and collaborate with faculty and staff on best practices to support students. Incorporate appropriate feedback.
- Serve as a College ambassador to students, faculty, and staff in various areas of disability awareness and accommodation implementation, including Universal Design.
- Master's Degree in Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, Sociology, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in a higher education setting leading or providing accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Case management or advising experience.
- Proven experience in effective team management and supervision, with strong skills in motivating, developing employees, and leading a cohesive team.
- Experience working in the community college setting.
- Knowledge of currently available assistive technology.
- Experience working with inclusive higher education programs or experience working with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the higher education setting.
- Bilingual: English-Spanish or American Sign Language (ASL).
