The Harold Walter Siebens School of Business at Buena Vista University (BVU) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator to join our full-time faculty. This is a unique opportunity for either a face-to-face teaching position, which may be a tenure-track faculty role (requiring a Ph.D.) or an instructor role (requiring a master’s degree) at our vibrant Storm campus, -- OR -- for the right candidate, willing to consider a remote instructor of finance position teaching synchronously to students via online platforms may be considered. We are looking for a dynamic individual committed to delivering high-quality undergraduate business and finance education. The successful candidate will teach a variety of finance courses, such as business finance, investments, corporate finance, and enterprise risk management, along with courses in the business core aligned with their expertise and interests. The Business major in the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business is designed to develop in students strong analytical, interpersonal, and professional skills grounded in a comprehensive understanding of contemporary business. The program includes both face-to-face and online majors. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning in the classroom and through professional and co-curricular opportunities such as internships, practicums, attendance at professional conferences, partnering with faculty on research, and travel.

The Harold Walter Siebens Forum and the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business recently completed a $15.1 million-dollar renovation project on the Storm Lake campus which includes state of the art classrooms, a trading room, and refreshed office, gathering and dining spaces. The Harold Walter Siebens School of Business is an endowed school whose generous donors make it possible to support excellent value-added learning and professional development opportunities for students and faculty.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach 24 credit hours annually with the possibility of release for running the trading lab
  • Incorporate experiential learning opportunities into classes and the student experience
  • Practice quality interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Function independently and work effectively as a team member
  • Able and willing to work effectively with a wide array of students from various backgrounds and experiences.
  • Mentor and advise students and student organizations
  • Remain current in the field through professional development activities
  • Be responsible for University service such as committee work, participating in departmental projects, and supporting the online program
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of students
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in finance or a closely related field
  • Ability to effectively teach a variety of courses in the business core and finance program
  • Ability to incorporate the trading lab and portfolio into instruction within the curriculum
  • Ability to mentor, advise, and guide the professional development of students
  • Ability to build connections with professionals in the industry
  • Ability to teach face-to-face or synchronous courses ensuring real-time engagement with students. Must be available to teach during scheduled class times.
  • Proficiency using Canvas, BVU’s learning management system, to manage course content, assignments, and communication is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • D. in finance, D.B.A. with a finance concentration, or closely related field that includes at least 18 graduate credits in finance
  • Certification as a CFA or CFP is a strong plus
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary/university level is strongly preferred
  • Experience teaching in and running a trading lab
  • Experience teaching courses in both face-to-face and online settings
  • Relevant professional experience in business and finance
  • Teaching face-to-face classes is strongly preferred.

This position is not eligible for an employer-sponsored visa and all applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
