You'll be...
- joining the IT department in the Division of Student Affairs which supports over 900 computer workstations, printers, laptops, and Apple devices utilized by approximately 1,200 departmental users accessing Student Affairs network resources.
- overseeing IT projects related to infrastructure, including the maintenance and administration of servers, network switches, firewalls, and other networking equipment housed in Student Affairs server rooms and the university's data centers.
- reporting directly to the Director of Student Affairs IT and you'll be responsible for a team of about 5 IT professionals.
- working collaboratively with Student Affairs IT team members and IT professionals across the Virginia Tech community to ensure the stability, security, confidentiality, and efficiency of the IT infrastructure that supports Student Affairs. You'll also be liaising with cross-functional departments to ensure the technical training and guidance provided to the faculty and staff of Student Affairs is successfully implemented.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent related training and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing mid-size IT teams.
- Demonstrated experience with Windows and Linux server technologies in a production environment.
- Proven experience in managing and maintaining network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, and server room networking.
- Demonstrated experience with enterprise backup systems and disaster recovery planning.
- Proficiency in systems administration for both Windows and Linux environments.
- Computer security experience, including familiarity with firewall configurations and implementation of security best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and work as a team member.
- Experience in IT project management and implementing large-scale infrastructure projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Information Technology, Business Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
- Experience working with public cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Proven experience in IT project management, including planning, execution, and delivery of infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of state purchasing procedures, CNS procedures, and Virginia Tech networks.
- Experience with automation tools for infrastructure management (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Terraform).
- Demonstrated experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Knowledge of ITIL or similar IT service management frameworks.
- Knowledge of higher education IT environments and Student Affairs operations.
