Houghton University invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment in Psychology, in the Department of Behavioral Science, at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, starting Fall 2025. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in clinical/counseling psychology (e.g. abnormal psychology, counseling and psychotherapy) and foundational courses (e.g. Introduction to Psychology) pertaining to expertise and interest. Teaching will be in person, with some online teaching opportunities. Responsibilities will include teaching 3-4 courses per semester, advising students, departmental collaboration, service, and scholarship.

The selected candidate will have:

  • a terminal degree in psychology (Ph.D, PsyD); however candidates who are ABD are encouraged to apply.
  • mature Christian faith
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • a commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching
  • an interest to integrate Christian faith into their teaching
  • an interest and willingness to support and mentor undergraduate students, including collaborative research

The Behavioral Sciences department at Houghton University consists of a vibrant community of faculty who are passionate about training undergraduate students to understand psychology deeply and to apply this knowledge to learn about and serve others. Many of our students come to us already interested in clinical practice and end up pursuing graduate education and work in a clinical or counseling field. Every psychology major engages in multiple research projects with faculty who have access to physiological equipment (e.g. EEG), computers for data collection, laboratory space, and supplemental research funding. The department is committed to helping students form respectful attitudes and interactions with people who differ in abilities, attitudes, and cultural experiences. Houghton University’s strategic priorities 2023-2028 includes the development of a Graduate Degree in Psychology.

Starting salary will be dependent on the candidates’ qualifications and experienceAnticipated Salary Range: $44,000-$56,000
