Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement, the Senior Multimedia Producer develops and produces creative media and digital content strategy to enhance strategic recruitment, outreach, and marketing initiatives for Harvard College. This position requires an established video professional with expansive digital storytelling capabilities, demonstrated understanding of social video, and strong skills in shooting, editing, and related technical elements of video production. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who can collaborate with internal clients and stakeholders to create multimedia content that meets business objectives. This person will be organized and proactive, have excellent attention to detail, and exhibit leadership skills.

The Senior Multimedia Producer will also manage the Content Lab, a digital outreach and recruitment program within the Harvard College Office of Admissions & Financial Aid. The mission of the Content Lab is to empower students to tell their stories through digital media and disseminate those stories across digital channels. As a program manager, the Senior Multimedia Producer is responsible for hiring, training, and coordinating student content creators and volunteers, developing programmatic strategy, priorities, and production calendars, and maintaining a media studio and production equipment. The Senior Multimedia Producer also develops social content strategy and creative strategy in collaboration with the Manager of Digital Recruitment.

Position Description
  • Conceptualize, film, and edit innovative short-form and long-form content for Harvard College, including announcements, promotional material, vlogs, short documentaries, and more. Manage pre-production, planning, logistics, filming, editing, audio, and publication of video products.
  • Collaborate with Harvard College and FAS stakeholders to integrate multimedia deliverables into Admissions Office communications, including college.harvard.edu, emails, and Admissions Office social media channels.
  • Produce social media-friendly content; embrace new technology and formats to help reach new audiences.
  • Plan video shoots: scout, select, and reserve locations. Research, source, and film supplemental audio and video (b-roll) content as needed.
  • Actively communicate with stakeholders about the status and deadlines of projects; schedule shoots; coordinate permits; anticipate opportunities and issues.
  • Oversee publication of content including video uploads, captioning, and creation of engaging cover images, thumbnails, titles, and descriptions that increase reach and drive organic discovery on social media.
  • Serve as technical liaison to other university departments and external vendors; organize, inventory, and troubleshoot issues with media production equipment.
  • Maintain and organize a library of past and current media projects.
  • Maintain and iteratively improve media production internship programs for Harvard student workers during the academic year and summers.
  • Periodically hire part time or full time interns and train them towards proficiency in the practice of media production (camera operation, post production, project management, etc.)
  • Oversee and coordinate student intern efforts, delegate production tasks and projects, and mentor/teach students how to achieve programmatic and production goals.
  • Supervise and delegate work to a part-time video editor who works remotely.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
    • 4+ years of video production experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
    • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, with working knowledge of Audition, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
    • Expertise in typography, motion graphics, digital formats, video codecs, social video platforms, and graphic design.
    • Skilled in organizing and archiving video files.
    • In-depth understanding of social media content trends, styles, formats, and genres, with excellent judgment and communication skills.
    • Enthusiastic, creative thinker who actively pitches ideas and positively contributes to group brainstorming sessions.
    • Open to experimentation and exploring new storytelling formats.
    • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively to establish project deliverables.
    • Strong project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, multitask, and meet deadlines.
    • Previous experience managing part-time staff or students is helpful.
    • FAA Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot License is a plus.

  • Sitting using near vision use for computer use for extended periods of time
  • Lifting (approximately 35 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion
  • Ability to manage indoor and outdoor locations for video shoots
Working Conditions
  • Night/weekend work may be required.
  • Work is typically performed in an office setting or on location for video shoots, but may be hybrid, as directed by FAS.
  • This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (including, but not limited to, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, NJ, RI, and VT).

Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only).
