Organizational Unit Overview:
The Division of Student Affairs comprises over 30 departments, each responsible for providing various student support, services, and educational programs accessible to the university community. With over 300 full-time employees and over 1200 student workers, the Division supports Pirate success through environments that enhance student development, engagement, belonging, well-being, and career readiness. Career Services mission is to support and empower students in their career development to succeed as professionals in a global community. Career Services proactively develops and maintains relationships with employers and organizations and provides a link to the "world of work" through which students connect with information resources, internships, CO-OP's and full time career connections. Job Duties:
  • The Career Advisor will coach and/or advise undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni to provide career and major exploration, resume, and cover letter review, mock interviews, job search strategies, and general professional development. (40%)
  • Assist students with the most appropriate fit for an academic major/minor and related careers. (20%)
  • Facilitate classroom presentations and activities around a large variety of career development and professional development topics (15%)
  • Support and promote career programs and events offered by Career Services, including career fairs, on-campus interviewing programs, and other programs. (10%)
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and best practices in career development to apply to services provided to students. (10%)
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Director or designee. (5%)
This position reports directly to the Associate Director for Career Development in Career Services.

Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Master's degree required; or will accept in substitution a bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of experience in Career Services, Advising, Residence Life, Enrollment Management or other student related area in higher education. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employer recruitment strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and employment information sources.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:
None

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
  • Two years of full-time experience providing career counseling, career coaching, and career advising or related student services experience in a college/university setting.
  • Ability to interact with all members of the student, staff, and faculty population.
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, academic personnel, employers, and alumni.
  • Experience and proficiency with incorporating the use of technology to deliver services.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and organizational skills preferred.
