Position Description
Central Finance and Administration drives efficiency and consistency in policy and practice across central Administration. The organization broadly oversees the budgeting, reporting, and strategic financial management needs of core Central Administration, supporting the Executive Vice President and Assistant Vice President for Finance and Administration. The group also directly provides shared service financial and transaction management for several Central units. As a financial analyst the position will report to the Senior Manager, Financial Operations and provide financial planning, analysis, and reporting for several assigned units, as well as oversee the controller related responsibilities for these same units. The position will also partner with some units to assist with preparing quarterly and yearend financials, budgets, forecasts, and multi-year financial plans.

Duties and Responsibilities
As part of the Shared Service team
  • Develop and execute standardized processes for transactions including payables receivables expense reimbursements corporate cards, purchasing cards, cash management, B2P, journal entries and internal billing
  • Manage and perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes including accruals and other accounting adjustments.
  • Produce monthly financial management reports that analyze budget variances, call out key themes, and provide analytic summaries; work with multiple financial databases to extract and model financial data
  • Provide analytics support for new initiatives or strategic financial questions; help frame options, recommendations, and considerations; create ad-hoc reports as needed
  • Act as "divisional controller" responsible for overall financial compliance for these units
  • Act as primary liaison to units for transaction-related in inquiries and issues; provide exceptional customer service and build metrics to track success
  • Ensure transaction alignment with University policy and more detailed Central Finance and Administration group policies and procedures; provide unit staff with education and support
Partner Model
  • Support the financial managers of Central units in the development of multi-year financial plans annual budgets, and quarterly forecasts.
  • Ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrated experience with complex financial analysis.
  • Experience with financial and budgeting database tools required.
  • Critical thinking, communications, and data analysis skills a must; ability to work at the detail level and synthesize and present complex information across a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in all aspects of work.
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and deadlines. Project management experience a plus.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates customer focus and service orientation.
  • Should possess advanced desktop skills and comfort in learning new technology.
  • Should be proficient in advanced use of Excel.
  • Database skills are a plus.

Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
