Senior Network Engineer

Position Summary:
Information Technology Services (ITS) is a university-wide organization devoted to strategic planning, implementation, and support of technology products and services to meet the teaching, learning, research, and administrative needs of the Pace community. Our goal is to provide our customers with innovative solutions, exceptional customer service, and a reliable and secure computing Infrastructure. ITS encompasses enterprise application systems and services support, enterprise reporting networking, telecommunications, server operations, user support, and helpdesk operations. The Network Services group, an office within ITS is responsible for the design, maintenance, and security of the Pace University data network, both wired and wireless. This includes firewall and VPN services, intrusion prevention and detection systems, IP routing, switching, and data center fabric. Network staff members respond 24×7 to events affecting connectivity or security and provide consulting to other IT support units throughout the University. The Network Engineer is a key member of the Network Services group and is responsible for planning, designing, operating, and monitoring Pace University’s multi-campus data network. They should be a highly motivated individual with keen problem-solving and design skills.
Position Responsibilities:

- Installation and operational support of mission-critical infrastructure, including all wired network switches, core routers, service provider circuits/uplinks, wireless platform next-generation firewalls, VPN remote access, and data center ACI fabric.
- Handle capacity planning change control, inventory control, and monitoring functions.
- Strong technical and leadership skills and is responsible for running large projects.
- Participate in on-call rotation one week a month and may require additional after-hours work, depending on the status of the network.
- Network Services also works closely with the Technical Services group on support issues surrounding DNS DHCP server load balancing, server connectivity, and security.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
The ideal candidates will possess the following:

- B.S. degree in Computer Science or Information Systems required; Master’s degree in IT discipline preferred.
- At least three years of recent experience in day-to-day configuration, operation, and troubleshooting of a complex Cisco enterprise data network.
- Cisco networking experience is required.
- At least one of the following certifications is preferred: Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA), Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA),Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
- Cisco ACI data center fabric and Cisco Firepower NW Firewall experience.
- Knowledge of Cisco Call Center and telephony / VOIP.
- Solid experience in network and infrastructure design.
- Proven operations experience with complex routed IP networks, layer two/three switches, routers, firewalls, LAN/WAN networking hardware, and protocols.
- Current hands-on experience in the configuration, management, and operation of Cisco appliances, including Firepower, ACI, Catalyst and Nexus switches, router, and core devices.
- Knowledge of TLS, Wireless, and other LAN/WAN networks.
- Working experience with networking technologies and protocols including but not limited to TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, OSPF, BGP, SNMP, RIP, 802.1x, 802.1q.
- Team player with proven experience providing exceptional customer service.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize in a sometimes rapidly changing and time-critical environment.
- Experience in IT within Higher Ed is highly preferred.
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with additional hours as needed. Required to travel between all campuses to service equipment and resolve issues as needed. The Senior Network Engineer will be expected to participate in an on-call rotation, which could involve responding to incidents during evenings, overnight, and/or weekend hours. Additionally, the Senior Network Engineer is expected to assist with system maintenance activities, which often take place during evenings, overnights, and/or weekends as needed.
