Job Description:
Farmingdale State College seeks a Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) who is an established leader with a keen sense of the challenges and remarkable opportunities facing higher education today. Our next VPSA will hold a proven ability to foster innovation, build strategic programs, promote student success, and support a diverse and inclusive student body. As a part of the President's cabinet, the Vice President for Student Affairs will join the senior leadership team of newly appointed President Robert Prezant at this key moment in the institution's trajectory, as Farmingdale State College embraces the future while preserving its commitment to providing a transformative education that prepares graduates for lives of personal and professional success, civic engagement, and service.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of student-engaging departments in higher education. This position will be instrumental in fostering innovation, building strategic partnerships, and empowering student success. The VPSA will work closely with the other members of the Cabinet to ensure students have necessary experiences, programming, and services to optimize their collegiate journey and realize their goals of earning a degree and beyond.
The Vice President for Student Affairs will be responsible for creating a cohesive Division of Student Affairs and overseeing the strategic direction and operational management of all student affairs functions. This role is pivotal in shaping and implementing initiatives that foster a sense of belonging, promote student engagement, and advance holistic wellbeing. This position will work closely with all campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students to create a supportive and enriching environment that aligns with FSC's mission and goals.
Strategic Leadership
The Vice President for Student Affairs will develop and execute a comprehensive vision and strategy for student affairs that aligns with FSC's mission and strategic goals; lead efforts that demonstrably influence student engagement, retention, persistence, and success; partner with academic departments, faculty, enrollment management, and other administrative departments to cultivate a culture where students can learn, grow and realize their educational and personal goals; and interconnect student affairs initiatives with academic programs to create a seamless, integrated curricular and co-curricular journey for students.
Division Oversight
Oversee the administration of student services and programs, including student activities, campus mental health, residence life, health & wellness, disability services, Title IX, veteran's services, and dean of students. Utilize data and assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of student affairs programs and services and drive improvement and innovation.
Policy Development
Develop and implement policies and procedures related to student affairs, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The VPSA will have the essential responsibility of maintaining currency in and alignment with all such regulatory requirements.
Budget Management
Manage the budget for the Division of Student Affairs, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources and financial sustainability. The VPSA will seek collaborations with partners external to the College and will seek fiscal and other support to help build and sustain relevant programs.
Crisis Management
Provide leadership and support during crises and emergencies, including coordinating response efforts and promoting student well-being. The VPSA will maintain appropriate ties with the SUNY System office to ensure that FSC maintains appropriate processes and responses determined at the System level.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctoral degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related and relevant field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership in student affairs or a related field, including supervisory experience.
- Passion for working collaboratively across the institution to create an optimal environment for student success and degree completion.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budget management, and policy development.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of best practices in student affairs, current trends and issues in higher education.
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements related to student affairs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 years' experience in a senior leadership role.
- Leadership or collaborative experience producing external funding that supports student life, development, programming.
- Experience working at a public college or university and in a unionized environment.
- Experience creating external partnerships that support student development.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time M/C position.
