Position Summary
The Training & Professional Development Specialist is a key member of the Human Resources team, responsible for assessing the training and development needs of university staff and faculty and implementing comprehensive learning programs. This individual will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design, develop, and deliver both in-person and on-demand training solutions that enhance the skills and knowledge of university employees. The role requires a proactive approach to fostering professional growth, ensuring content is engaging, and using a variety of instructional methods to meet diverse learning needs. This position does not supervise other employees.
Job Duties
Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (10% - essential)
* Work closely with SMEs from various departments to identify content areas for development.
* Ensure training materials are accurate, up-to-date, and relevant to university policies, procedures, and best practices.
Content Creation and Development (25% - essential)
* Design and develop engaging training content for both interactive in-person sessions and on-demand courses, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
* Utilize multimedia tools and platforms to create dynamic presentations, videos, guides, and handouts.
* Continuously update training materials to reflect changes in university policies, laws, and industry standards.
Training Facilitation (25% - essential)
* Conduct interactive, in-person training sessions, workshops, and seminars on a variety of topics including compliance, leadership, technology, and professional skills.
* Develop on-demand, recorded training content using a Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure accessibility for all employees.
* Use adult learning principles to ensure trainings are interactive, engaging, and applicable to real-world scenarios.
Performance Evaluation Process (15% - essential)
* Oversee the performance evaluation process across the organization.
* Ensure employees and supervisors are trained on the process, timelines, and best practices for providing effective feedback.
* Provide support to ensure evaluations are completed in a timely and constructive manner.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement (5% - essential)
* Track and analyze the success of training programs using key performance indicators (KPIs) such as participant feedback, knowledge retention, and performance improvement.
* Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements or adjustments as needed.
* Conduct assessments to identify training and professional development needs across departments.
* Use surveys, interviews, focus groups, and data analysis to gather feedback and measure the effectiveness of training initiatives.
Learning Management System (LMS) Administration (15% - essential)
* Manage and update content within the university's LMS to ensure ease of access and seamless user experience.
* Troubleshoot LMS issues and provide technical support as needed.
Other Duties as Assigned (5% - essential)
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, or a related field.
Preferred: Master's degree in Human Resources, Education, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years' experience in training, instructional design, or professional development roles.
Certification:
Preferred: Certifications in training or instructional design (e.g., CPTD,ATD).
Ability:
- Proven ability to develop and facilitate engaging in-person and on-demand training sessions. Experience collaborating with subject matter experts to create relevant and accurate training content. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning tools. Preferred experience with Cornerstone LMS.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in instructional design and adult learning principles. Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and facilitation abilities. Knowledge of multimedia tools for developing training content (e.g., video editing, presentation software). Ability to assess training effectiveness and make data- driven decision.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
