Job Summary

The Pharmacist is responsible for assisting the Pharmacy Supervisor with the operations of the pharmacy, including dispensing services, clinical services, operations, and personnel supervision. The Pharmacist may also provide disease state management, immunizations, medication therapy management, perform point-of-care laboratory testing and interpretation, and other non-dispensing roles of the pharmacist. The Pharmacist must ensure that policies and Federal and State laws and regulations in all prescription-related issues, including record keeping, and attention to HIPAA, are followed. He or she will provide counseling on both prescription medications and over-the-counter medications per College policy and as required by State and Federal law. They will ensure that all control drug policies and procedures as required by State, Federal, and Company guidelines are followed. They will provide wellness and disease state management services to our patients and the employees of Ohio Northern University. They will perform troubleshooting functions for third-party discrepancies and other prescription filling issues and verify that all required pharmacy, pharmacist, and technician licenses/registrations are current and valid as required by State, Federal, and Company guidelines. The Pharmacist will precept student pharmacists and resident pharmacists in the operation of the pharmacy, and be responsible for the supervision of learners in the practice. The Pharmacist may have other responsibilities assigned as appropriate.

Principal Responsibilities

This Pharmacist will assist the Pharmacy Supervisor with dispensing, clinical, and operational aspects in the daily operation of the ONU HealthWise pharmacy. These responsibilities include:
  • ordering and maintaining the pharmacy's medication inventory
  • supervising all personnel in the pharmacy
  • ensuring that policies and Federal and State laws and regulations in all prescription-related issues, including HIPAA, are followed
  • dispensing medications and providing or supervising counseling on both prescription medications and over-the-counter medications per College policy and as required by State and Federal law
  • providing immunizations
  • providing medication therapy management
  • performing point-of-care laboratory testing and interpretation
  • providing disease state management and monitoring services
  • ensuring that all control drug policies and procedures as required by State, Federal, and Company guidelines are followed
  • overseeing all third-party billing, and identifying and solving all third-party discrepancies and other prescription filling
  • training and precepting of student pharmacists and resident pharmacists
  • supporting and collaborating with the other ONU HealthWise programs and clinics including but not limited to, the employee wellness clinic, the pharmacy services center, and the rural mobile health clinic

Minimum Qualifications
  • A BS Pharmacy or PharmD degree is required
  • Licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Ohio
  • Previous experience in community pharmacy, ambulatory care pharmacy, or a related field
  • Familiarity with community pharmacy or ambulatory care practices, guidelines, and regulations in relation to medication dispensing, counseling, record-keeping inventory management, and all applicable State and Federal laws.
  • Previous experience supervising and/or precepting learners
  • Proficient in directing, overseeing, and evaluating the work of technical and professional staff
  • Effectiveness in maintaining and establishing efficient relationships with the public, employees, departmental staff, and supervisors
  • The willingness and potential to contribute to the research and service mission of the college
Preferred Qualifications
  • Residency or fellowship training in a related field
  • Experience as a pharmacist at an independently owned and operated pharmacy
  • Experience with pharmacy financials and business management
