Ag Technician
Job Description
The position provides support for the field crop plant pathology research program at the Virginia Tech's Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center. Duties will include, but are not limited to: preparing land for planting, maintaining farm equipment, assisting research technicians in planting, maintenance, and harvesting of research plots; mixing and applying pesticides; assisting in data collection for laboratory, greenhouse and field research trials. This is an off-campus position located at the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center (TAREC) in Suffolk, VA.
Required Qualifications
Ability to work in an agricultural setting under hot and humid conditions. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Should be able to work independently or in a team environment. Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in small-plot agricultural research. Applicants should currently hold a private pesticide applicators license or exhibit the ability to obtain a private or registered technician pesticide license. Ability to use e-mail, spreadsheet and word processing software.
