We place emphasis on practical problem solving, interdisciplinary learning, a transformative spirit, and collaboration.

The Stigma, Health Equity, and Resilience (SHER) Lab here at CMU (PI: Michael Trujillo) has an opening for a part-time research assistant position (up to 30 hours per week) to begin the Fall/early Winter of this academic year (2024-2025). The appointment will be for 1 year, with additional years contingent upon performance and availability of funding.

The SHER Lab uses experimental paradigms, intensive longitudinal designs, and psychophysiology to examine the underlying mechanisms that link stigma and health as well as big data to identify the factors that promote health equity for stigmatized populations, especially as they related to sexual, gender, and racial/ethnic identity. The research assistant will coordinate participant recruitment, collect data for various (non-)experimental studies, and work with student research assistants.

Core Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with human behavioral experiments and leading recruitment efforts for studies
  • Engage in all aspects of data collection, including: recruitment and screening of participants, obtaining participant consent, subject assignment, outlining experimental protocol, and administration of questionnaires
  • Work with undergraduate research assistants in a variety of lab related tasks including the screening and recruiting of participants, data entry, and study protocol
  • Oversee organization and maintenance of lab equipment
  • Support lab manager with administrative tasks, as needed

Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within the School of Computer Science Research Department. Inclusion, collaboration and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU. Therefore, we are in search of a team member who is able to effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.
