Adjunct Lecturer in Spanish

Summary
The Department of Humanities at Regis College seeks an Adjunct Professor for the spring 2025 semester specializing in Spanish to teach Intermediate Spanish for Health Sciences (SP 200-01). This class, an oral survival course for students who have completed the introductory level course (or more than 2 years of high school Spanish) is primarily taken by undergraduate students in the nursing and allied health professions. Classes begin January 21, 2025. This course section is currently scheduled to be offered on Mondays, 6:00pm-9:00pm in a Zoom synchronous modality.
Essential Functions:
- Teach SP 200 as an orally focused course, with an emphasis on the terms and situations commonly encountered within the health professions; engage with all responsibilities normally associated with teaching: grading; office hours; student engagement; curriculum alignment with other course sections; academic assessment.
Requirements:
- An earned MA in Spanish Language; PhD welcome.
- Demonstrated evidence of at least three years of teaching Spanish language at the undergraduate level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the customs and cultures of Spanish-speaking countries and the wider diaspora.
- Evidence of knowledge of the nursing and/or allied health professions greatly preferred.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom learning environment in keeping with the University's commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other faculty to ensure consistency across class sections as needed.
- Demonstrated familiarity with academic assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to teach via Zoom (or other video-conferencing platform) highly desired.
- Familiarity with the learning management system Moodle is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to uphold the university's commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in noise, odors, etc.
- May spend extended periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
