Job Description:

Weber State University seeks a Full-Time Instructor to help build an ESL Program and teach in that program. Possibility for conversion to Tenure Track pending qualifications, budget and need.

Weber State University is dedicated to becoming a federally-designated emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution (eHSI) by 2025, and is also in the process of developing and implementing the Building Puentes Program (an innovative initiative designed to offer stackable bilingual credentials in Spanish and English).

Additionally, the number of international students and multilingual learners at Weber State University has increased significantly, rising by 179% over the past four years.


To support our multilingual student population the Department of World Languages & Cultures is building an ESL program and is hiring a Full-Time Instructor to lead these efforts.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities
  • The instructor will build and teach for the ESL program in alignment with other departments and initiatives of the College. The instructor will work with both resident and international students.
  • The typical teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. In the first year, the teaching load will be reduced in order to allow time to develop the program.
  • The Instructor will participate in Department activities-such as curriculum development, academic advisement, and program assessment-and contribute to the College community through committee work and other activities.
Required Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL) or a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience teaching English to adult speakers of other languages.
  • Experience developing curriculum, course content, and assessment tools for ESL in multiple modalities.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or EdD in TESOL or a closely related field.
  • Advanced High proficiency in a language other than English.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach additional courses (e.g., world languages, applied linguistics, linguistics, etc.)
