Business Coordinator
Job Description
The Virginia Tech Innovation Campus is seeking an ambitious, resourceful self-starter with strong financial skills to join an innovative team in a financial and operational support role. Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance Operations & Analysis for Innovation Campus, the Business Coordinator assists with all aspects of fiscal management of the Innovation Campus programs and operations. Primary duties include budget monitoring, reconciliation, and reporting; purchasing and accounts payable; accounts receivable; travel; wage payroll reconciliation; wage hiring; management of fixed assets; data gathering and preparation of ad hoc financial reports; and the assistance with other financial and administrative duties as requested. This role will work as a collaborative member of the Innovation Campus' fiscal team.
The Virginia Tech Innovation Campus is a bold, new vision for research and graduate education in computer science and computer engineering located adjacent to the nation's capital in Alexandria, Virginia. The Innovation Campus will unite industry, government, and academia in dynamic project-based learning and purpose-driven research to shape the way emerging technologies influence society. Virginia Tech also operates an advanced research center located in Arlington, Virginia that is the physical home for multiple university programs focused on security, engineering, public policy, and outreach. The opportunity of this new role is to lead building operations for over 400,000 square feet of university space with the goal of providing high quality, seamless support for graduate instruction and advanced research in a physical environment that is a fully supported extension of the larger university into the DC region.
The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills with great attention to detail. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, be able to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines and thrive on working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with shifting priorities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated self-motivation and initiative to complete training programs specific to Virginia Tech policy and procedure.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a business support position.
- Fiscal and/or administrative support experience in a professional setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial principles and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience researching, investigating, analyzing and evaluating data.
- Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft office applications such as Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a business administration discipline.
- Demonstrated proficiency with financial and human resources information systems such as Banner.
- Knowledge of Virginia Tech university fiscal policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated multi-tasking, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to audit, reconcile, detect errors, inconsistencies or discrepancies.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Ability work with discretion and to maintain confidentiality.
