Assistant Professor-English
The English Department at Mount St. Mary’s University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in creative writing, to begin August 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate must be prepared to teach introductory and advanced creative writing classes. Teaching responsibilities will also include courses that contribute to our common liberal arts curriculum, specifically in first-year writing courses and in America in the World, an interdisciplinary class combining American literature and history. Mount St. Mary’s has a 3/4 teaching load, which will be reduced to 3/3 for directing the student literary magazine, Lighted Corners.
Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:
The successful candidate will have a terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in hand by August 2025 or a letter from the dissertation supervisor verifying that a defense date has been scheduled prior to August 15, 2025.
Candidates should have a strong publication record or the potential thereof, and they should demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching creative writing. Salary Range:
$57,000-$62,000
(compensation depending on experience, education, and qualifications)
