The Department of Mathematics & Sciences at Our Lady of the Lake University seeks a full-time, non-tenure track, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology for our main campus in San Antonio, TX to begin in August 2025. We are seeking a faculty member to teach, advise and mentor students majoring in kinesiology and conduct research in Strength and Conditioning and Biomechanics
We are a vibrant department currently serving over 140 majors. Our department prides itself on its campus-wide recognition of our student-centered approach to teaching, engagement in community service, and scholarly activity.
The Kinesiology program takes a cross-disciplinary approach and requires a broad core for all students. Our Kinesiology Laboratory is a teaching/research laboratory space including equipment for exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription.
Job Description:
We are seeking an energetic and collaborative individual to join our team to complement and strengthen existing expertise and experience. Specific duties of the position include:
- Teach courses at the undergraduate level in the areas of Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics, and 2 additional courses related to the candidate's expertise.
- Engage in an active line of scholarship that will include participation of undergraduate students.
- Present faculty and student research at regional and national conferences.
- Redesign the undergraduate Biomechanics course to include project based learning and relevant laboratory experiences.
- The typical teaching load is a 4/4 but faculty member will receive a course release in their first semester of employment.
In addition to teaching, all faculty will be expected to:
- Advise our undergraduate kinesiology students,
- Serve in roles for departmental administrative and/or committee work,
- Serve on campus-wide committee responsibilities, and
- Provide service to the greater community surrounding OLLU.
Most courses are offered in a face-to-face format, but some hybrid and online course offerings exist.
Start-up funds will be available to purchase equipment for biomechanics laboratory equipment that will support faculty and student research.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write clearly, persuasively and concisely on a deadline. Strong editing skills.
- Ability to work well under deadline and prioritize projects simultaneously.
- Self-starter, goal-oriented and able to work independently and initiate follow-through.
- Ability to interface professionally with administrators, faculty, staff, students and funding agencies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to the University's core values of Community, Integrity, Trust and Service.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Clear evidence of effective teaching and scholarship.
- Doctorate in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Biomechanics, Strength and Conditioning or a related field. ABD will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of teaching experience
- NSCA or CSCCA certifications
- Scholarly productivity in the areas of Biomechanics and/or Strength and Conditioning.
