STATISTICAL AND DATA SCIENCES - The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at The College of Wooster invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions in Statistical and Data Sciences beginning August, 2025. Appointments will generally be made at the level of Assistant Professor, although advanced appointments may be considered for candidates with appropriate experience. This search is open to all areas of statistics and data science. Review of applications will begin on October 22, but the committee will continue reviewing applications until the positions are filled. The committee chair is happy to answer questions about the status of the search from interested applicants at any time.

The department offers majors in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistical & Data Sciences, graduating 65-85 seniors each year across the three fields. The department is vibrant, collaborative, and committed to excellence in both teaching and research, often in projects that include undergraduates. The expected teaching load is 5.5 courses per year, which includes teaching 4-5 courses per year in Statistical and Data Sciences and credited mentoring of Senior Independent Study (I.S.) projects. All tenure-track faculty are expected to teach in the college's First-Year Seminar program on a regular rotation. We place a strong emphasis on experiential learning, with every student completing a year-long Senior Independent Study project, and many participating in our unique Applied Methods & Research Experience summer consulting program. Candidates who value experiential learning and working on mentored undergraduate research projects will be a good fit for our department. One of the positions will require a Ph.D. in Statistics, while for the second position, we are open to candidates with experience in Statistics and a possible Ph.D. in another field.

Please submit through MathJobs.org a cover letter, CV, unofficial graduate transcripts, teaching statement, research statement, one-page diversity statement, and three reference letters. We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The College of Wooster enrolls a racially, socioeconomically, and culturally diverse student body, including 24% domestic students of color, 15% international students, and 25% Pell-eligible students. Courses in the MCS department attract a particularly diverse group of students, with our majors almost equally split between domestic and international students. The diversity statement should discuss the candidate's experience working with students from different backgrounds, ideas for building a more inclusive classroom, and their engagement with issues of diversity on campus or in the broader community.
